Just curiouis, how many times have you guys listened to III expecting to finally like it? I pull it out every 7 or eight months to see if I can get into it and find myself flipping though the songs and not getting it. This is their "music from the elder " release in my opinion.

I enjoy VH 3. Yeah, that's right. Personally, I find songs like "Without You", "Neworld", and "Year to the Day" to be awesome tunes. I really did like "Josephina" and "Once".

But still, the best song was left off. "That's Why I Love You" is one of my favorite songs ever. It sucks they left it off.

It's funny that I found this topic at this time. I bought VH 3 when it first came out and promptly took it back and traded it in for a Stevie Ray Vaughn disc (the ONLY time i have ever returned VH). I just found VH 3 in a bargain bin for $3.99! I thought i'd give it another chance.....all i can say is "I want my fucken $$$ back!!". There is not one killer VH song in my humble opinion (the only song that sounds remotely like VH is Fire in The Hole). By the way, I thought Sammy LEFT the band, why is he singin' on this album? Ha Ha. The disc now sits on my coffee table and serves as a great coaster for my respective beer.

My brother and I are still fucken laughing from "How Many Say I?"!!! What were ya thinkin' Ed?.....What were ya thinkin?

ok....well....hmmmm. My opionion have gone back and forth on this for some time. I especially like Mikes "linear" or "melodic" bass playing on this album. Just listen to him on "One I Want" for example. Are we talking about interesting music or hit singles. Hit singles, there are none, but there is a lot of music and musicianship here. i would say two thirds of this album grows on me every time i hear it. Th rest is trash, as mentioned, "how many say i" for example...what is that? Did this album tank because of no hit singles, or, the intolerance of the vh fans who cannot accept change in any way shape or form. i would say both reasons. I think VH is over....and even if they turned out a product with dave, sammy, et al, i dont think it would commercialy successful, given the stuff that kids are buying. I hope they make one more mjust for us.

That isn't mike, it's Eddie. If you listen to Sammy's solo album "I never said goodbye" you can hear similar bass playing and Ed definetly played on that one. I don't think Mike played on more than a couple of songs. I think Ed's playing drums on most of the tracks as well.

It is funny that this topic is here now. I was telling a friend of mine last week that I throw VHIII on about every 6 months hoping it grows on me. Never happens, I like it less each time. There are a few things that are ok, but for VH it is pure crap (IMO). Van Halen's "yes men" should have been shot. Who could have possibly looked Ed in the face and told him his vocals sound good without laughing? But, then again, what do I know, I actually really like the Elder.

Every few months I bust out "3" to see if I missed something. After two or three listens, I realize I haven't missed anything. There are interesting elements here and there but BAD PRODUCTION.
    Under-developed and over-produced.

Sammy Hagar himself claimed that Mike didn't play on this CD. I think the best tune on Van Halen III is "From Afar" followed by "Fire In The Whole" the rest of the stuff is just Hagar material with a different singer who is just as bad. Though "One I Want" might feature some of Eddie's worst playing with that annoying plucked rythme stuff that went out in 1981.

mike didn't play on this cd? for real? can anyone confirm that? i wanna' listen to it again to see if you're right...

i really think "one i want" (or whatever its called) would have been an awesome song if dave or sammy put their touches on it... the music rocks... love the solo break...

gary's lyrics just made me sick on that cd... i thought his lyrics with extreme were pretty good too...

and the drumming is definitely not ed- except maybe in "once"

I too read the interview when Sammy claimed that Eddie did the bass, but I've never heard it from Mike, and Sammy said it before he and Mike were hanging out again-so I don't think he heard that from Mike (though Mike may have confirmed it since then). I'm guessing it's true, at least for part of the album, since Eddie pretty much called all the shots. Also, I don't think it's Eddie on drums. Even though they were his original instrument, and he could probably play them ok, I hear too much of Alex's style on the album.

i don't mind this album..of course it's at the bottom of my list but i do listen to it from time to time. the music is a little sloppy in spots and the production sucks but i like the feel of some of the songs. don't really care for gary at all on the album but the music rocks. i think if sammy sung on the album it would have been much better and prolly would have sold over a millon copies. and yes...i'm convinced that ed is playing bass on some of the tracks, without you is one of them. thats also my fav. track, along with year to the day.
