I've read that Geddy Lee and EVH had some kind of altercation in a hotel many years back. Something about Geddy playing a tape on a small tape recorder for EVH and then whispering something to him. Whatever he said musta been interesting cuz EVH poured his drink all over him!
Anyone got the lowdown on what the hell Geddy may have said or what the hell was on that tape of music Geddy played EVH? Maybe someone heard somethin' about it?

I was wondering this same thing, i forget how the story went but had heard something about it. The only thing i remember about it is that Eddie was very drunk at the time.

Ditto, I have a 1984 interview with Dave where they ask him about VH's beef with Rush. Dave just compared it to professional wrestling and said that Rush tends to take themselves a little too seriously.

What I read (on a internet discussion board) was that Geddy Lee played a Rush song on the tape recorder and told Eddie something to the effect that, that is what a real drummer sounds like; to which Eddie poured his drink on the tape recorder.

I find it hard to believe Geddy Lee would do that, even though the temptation would be great given Alex's ability.

Alex is OK, but he's not in the same league as Neil Peart.

Alex is a basher. Both are great and are perfect for their respective bands. Put Peart in VH and Alex in Rush and neither band would sound right.

If anyone's every seen Rush live and seen a Neil Peart drum solo, and compare it to an AVH solo....there would be no argument. Peart is simply in another league!!!

It's not even a matter of who is better between Alex and Neil. That is simply absurd. To put it to rest, substitute either for the other's band, and it would not be right. Alex would not be the right drummer for the Rush sound, even if he played the strokes note for note, and vice versa on Neils' part if he played with VH. It's all about the players statement as the band member, not who could kick the ass of the other. However, I think Eddie would have played some pretty interesting shit over some of those trogladite Rush riffs.

"Trogladite" is a term that my musician friends and I will often use to describe those old school heavy ass riffs. i.e. Sabbath, or Working Man from Rush ( which to me sounds like Sabbath and yes I know that Peart was not the drummer on that one ) Judas Priest. Shit like that. Not to many bands after the 80's came out with said "trogladite" riffs. Sometimes the term is used in a less than complimentary sense, but not when referring to Rush or Sabbath, Priest etc.
