well technically this is a rumor, but i just wanted to discuss this with you guys. i think in a way its good. roth and vh were selling out stadiums in 84, sining their songs. i dont think roth will need the sammy songs to get people to come. it would be a nice gesture. also i dont know if i want to hear dave sing some of those love songs. i just think it wouldnt look right. roth can pull off a "Damn Good", or a "Black Sand", but i dont recall a love ballad. some will cite "I'll Wait", but that song is not the type i would play with my girlfriend to get her in the mood. it doesnt have that lovey feel, at least to me. i think roth could do "best of both worlds", "humans being", and maybe "right now". i would love to hear roth's take on "Finish what u started". just some comments. any thoughts?

Angel Eyes is a DLR ballad in the classic sense.
I don't want to hear Dave do Sammy material. It wouldn't do either Dave or the songs justice. There's so much from the first 6 albums that could and should be done, and then there's the new album as well.
Sammy had an interesting comment in an interview around '93. He was asked about playing more Roth tunes, and what the band thought of that. He said it was all the same to them, so he'd prefer to do things that he's comfortable with. I imagine Dave would feel the same way.

I prefer Dave as the frontman for VH, but I don't think he could match Sammy's range on a lot of the songs. This isn't a slam on Dave, they just have different physical abilities. Plus I'd much rather hear them do a bunch of old songs and the new stuff too.

It ain't gonna happen, the only parts of the Sammy era you'll hear live is by Mike singing one, in an instrumental or a clip on Ed's guitar solo.

Nice post dude!!
I havent really thought about Roth doing sammy songs (mainly because i never thought that DLR+VH would get back together)....could be a problem 'cos it'll be very hard to ignore the 5 in between..they are very important in the development of VH as a band.
Personally speaking i feel that there are enough great songs at their fingertips without having to do the post-dave stuff.....and remember that they are recording together right now with virtually the whole album complete.
'its comin'

Mike L: good point. i forgot about angel eyes. roth actually sounded good. but i just cant see him trying "we'll get higher and higher, straight up through the clouds."
Eddie Van Susquatch: i agree with that sammy's range is better, but roth is original. he sets the mood of a song well.

Dooby: great point. if the new album is a classic one, then i think fans will be more the happy with the new stuff plus 78-84. i think on this first tour coming up, they will so the 78-84 stuff. but if another tour is done, then i think fans might want some sammy. at least the sammy fans. plus i didnt like it when sammy or gary did the roth tunes, cuz i prefered roth sing them. same with roth singing the hagar tunes.
