I actually like alot of Sammy's solo stuff I think the main reason I wasn't such a big fan of Van Hagar was because I felt he wasn't right for Van Halen. Being the David Lee Roth I am... I always prefered the original six.

Now, for the subject of Sammy, I do like alot of Sammy's solo stuff... I think "I'll fall in love again" might be one of my favorites... give to live was another one.

Sammy IMHO is at his best when he has creative control over his own music... not when he's being overshadowed by the legend of Mr. Roth.

That's when Sammy's music really shines

When I listen to DLR era VH, I hear the greatest music ever made. But when I listen to Sam era VH I don't allow my love of the first era to cast a shadow. I know that the vibe is different with Sam, and I have no problem with it.

Solo wise, Marching to Mars is the only thing I've heard of Sam's that really blew me away. Having said that I haven't heard a ton of Sam's solo work beyond the ones he does live. But MTM it a great album, and if 10/13 is anything like it, I'll be happy. I was less impressed with Red Voodoo than with MTM.

The 4 songs I've heard from Ten13 are pretty decent, Glenn.

Sammy's earlier work is sometimes hit and miss...

his self titled album Sammy Hagar from 1977(the Red one) is GREAT...but Musicial Chairs is so so...

Both Montrose records KICK! Though the first one is better than the second...

I just picked up Sam's first solos CD after Montrose: Nine On A Ten Scale. That one has a few great ones...AND some BAD ones too.

I recommend Standing Hampton, the Self Titled "Sammy Hagar" and Marching To Mars as the best ones he ever did. I agree that Red Voodoo was somewhat of a disappointment. Not as good as MTM...

I don't count Through The Fire as a full Solo effort from Sam, but THAT ONE is a great collaborative album! Check that one out...Neal Schoan of Journey is on that one and it's pretty good actually. The best tune on that album is: (I recommend you guys check out this one on Napster) "VALLEY OF THE KINGS" Do yourself a favor, if you do nothing else with your time today. Go to Napster and search for "VALLEY OF THE KINGS"

    Great tune!
