What would a guy like Randy get paid...to do a tour? I'm ignorant of those things.

it's hard to say, especially back then. It also depends on how he was compensated. Were they really a band, or was he simply on payroll as an employee. I'm sure he received writing credits, just not sure if he received proceeds from merchandise and things like that as well. My guess is probably not. If I recall, Schenker wanted $100K to finish the DOAM tour, that was considered too much money. Not that he wasn't worth it, just don't think they could afford it. If you look back at some of the Ozzy shows in those days they were playing to half full venues.

I would imagine when Randy joined Ozzy, his contract was likely a bit light. Nobody knew what would happen. Basic living expenses, travel, per diem, etc. Got writing credits on an album but likely an album not favorable even to Ozzy, Remember the stories of VH not making money until Sammy joined. Granted they did make money but in 1980, it wasn't like they were building mansions. Eddie was still living at his parents house. THis was VH with equal shares. So I am sure Ozzy's contract wasn't that good. Drugged out ex singer. Randy just a part of that with Bob and Lee.
Then Bob and Lee were fired. So I assume at that point a new contract was done. Ozzy definitely was on the upswing which means Sharon may have gotten him a new contract I am sure at that point, Randy was just a hired gun. Above touring guys like Rudy and Tommy but it was Ozzy's band now.
Randy's dad left at an early age or was very distant so no money with the home. Delores was left to fend for herself with three kids. Just had the music school and its not like she decided in 1988 to create a new school cause she was flush with cash. Nope same location. I truly think whatever deal Randy had aat his death was a crummy one. Therefore I do think that after Ozzy, he would look to see how metal was becoming. Album sales, etc He would have looked after his mom and would have tried to do something instead of throwing it away on college. There would have been so many opportunites for him.
The guy played in QR for years. Then with Ozzy and dealling with all that. He only knew one thing. Playing guitar in a band. That's what he knew and he obviously loved it. He would have done that IMO instead of getting a degree in music and dropping out. Its part of the romantic storytelling of Randy Rhoads.

all of the proceeds from Randy Rhoads Tribute should have gone to his mother.
As for VH not making money until Sammy arrived.... I don't know if I can buy into that. 1984 for a monster album and didn't Eddie have a fleet of sports cars, including that Lamborghini, at that point?
Keep typing Puzo... I'm loving this. :thumb:
