I think early on, VH played Hendrix's version of the song at some of their shows.......people thought that Ed was really playing the tune, but it was just that famous recording.......Glenn...... I need you on this one
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

I've got a few bootlegs from every Van Halen tour, and I don't recall Ed playing the Star Spangled Banner in any of them.

Could be, I don't know, I never saw VH myself until 1991. I know the Rolling Stones played the Hendrix version of the Star Spangled Banner on the Tattoo You tour. And isn't there a clip of it on U2's Rattle and Hum? I seem to recall that there is.
Not sure if VH ever did that.

BTW, I have a bootleg of DLR called Paradise Lost, which is from Japan I think, and the band does the Star Spangled Banner as an intro to Panama.

Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

Still gives me fucking goosebumps when I think of it. Burned into my mind, was my second concert ever and was the first time I was down on the floor.

I don't recall ever hearing of Ed doing the Star Spangled Banner...
On an interesting personal note... my 14 year old daughter asked me last week to teach her to play guitar for a talent contest in April. I asked her like what do you want to play? She said Star Spangled Banner like that Jimi guy you listen to... I almost fell off the couch!! So I dug up a tab and am working on simplifying it down a bit for a rookie. This is gonna be interesting...Woke up this mornin, got Blue Moon in your eyes...

When I saw VH in 1991 at Costa Mesa and I really thought Eddie played it before Poundcake, I remember Sammy saying "God Bless America" and then Eddie played the drill of Poundcake, but now I'm not sure if it was him or just Jimi.
Anyways I really got excited at that moment."I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone
"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and I´ve got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth
WOLFGANG did the IMPOSSIBLE, he brought back VAN HALEN, DEAL WITH IT.

They should have chose Eddie to play it at this year's Super Bowl. What a better way then to have the King of 10 Fingers and 6 Strings show the world that he is healthy and coming back to kick some ass.
