something that's always puzzled me

Hi VH fans,

I have a question regarding Van Halen and Matchbox 20 that I've been meaning to ask for ages but never got around to it. I saw an interview with Matchbox20 about 2 years ago (I know its ages ago but it still bugs me) on E-news. I live in Australia so I think the show may be different but you may know of what I'm talking about anyway.

Anyway, I wasn't actually watching the show (its a bunch of shit here anyway) but I started flicking through the channels when I turned on e-news and saw their bassist say something along the lines of "yeah, Eddie Van Halen is a total motherfucker". Unfortunately I wasn't watching when the question was asked that he replied this to - so I don't know what the whole thing is about.

Does anybody know of any feud that went on between the two bands around this time? I have a feeling that Eddie would have said something that was fairly critical of their band, and they got pissed off about it. I've read interviews with Eddie where he said that Jimmy Page didn't impress him too much unless he was in the studio so I doubt Eddie would have had any problems coming up with some flaws with Matchbox 20.

Can anybody help me solve this puzzle? I've already spent 2 years trying to figure it out - I'd like to solve it now.

Oh yeah I'd just like to add that matchbox 20 isn't and will never be half the band Van Halen is - how dare their talent lacking faggy bassist say something so harsh about the best guitarist in the world. He deserves more respect than that. All he did was turn me off the band - and I'm sure they lost a lot of other potential fans after he made that shitty comment about EVH.

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

If Eddie said they were garbage, good god, who could disagree with that (Other than the members of Matchbox 20 )?

I've never heard this story before, but if it's true, the bassist is retarded. He wants to get into a shitfest with Eddie? Yeah, man. I love his chances. What's his argument? That Matchbox 20 is in the same musical league with VH? LOL.

Whatever. I don't dig their stuff at all, and this just ensures that I'll never be nutty enough to do so in the future.

(All due respect to you Matchbox 20 fans. Uh, yeah... )

Right on DIF! Man, you've hit the nail on the head. They are such dribble compared to VH. If DLR's back (and even if he isn't) matchbox 20 should be shitting themselves. They've just released their 2nd shit album in an environment temprarily with no VH. Theyr are going to fade into insignificance when VH returns. SUCK SHIT MATCHBOX 20!!!

They are like most of the "rock" bands out there at the moment - all "new age guys" acting all sensitive and stuff. Makes me want to puke. They have so little balls they could be considered women. That's why we need the mighty original Vh lineup back - to shake things up a bit!!

I know what you're asking about Romeo. The "new rock" radio station here in Eugene does music news stuff once a day. I turned it on just as they were saying something about MB20 and Ed making up or something. Something that happened on maybe the 3 tour. That was all I heard, caught the end. I had forgot about it until this thread. I heard it about 4 months ago. I would like to know what went on also.

Matchbox Twenty (WHY THE FUCK DID THEY CHANGE THEIR NAME?) could be the WORST band in the history of the world. That could be a true statement. I have this argument every time I talk to one of my ex-girlfriends. (She's pro-Matchbox). She even dragged me to one of their concerts a couple years ago. Terrible, terrible band. The only good thing about it was that Soul Asylum (who opened up for 'em), played the first 30 seconds of "Jump" when they came out on stage. I nearly shit myself. But then they stopped and said it was a joke, etc. So, back to the main point, Matchbox Twenty/20 fucking blows.

Matchbox20 what a f*ckin joke of a band. They wish they had the Prestige of a Van Halen and to be considered musical Icons. He'll I bet you won't see those sorry Butt Munches in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And we all know Van Halen will be inducted there soon. So, to all the Matchbox20's out there and the rest of the 90's era Horsecrap excuses for bands out there, Piss Off!!!!!!

romeo, i do believe the whole shit fight started when both bands toured in australia in 1998. the bass player was pissed off when ed replied to an journo who asked what van halen think of bands like matchbox zero musical talent selling 10 millions albums and III selling not so well. ed replied, and rightly so, that bands like the before mentioned have been a round for a micro second and ask him in 10 years time if they are still around...(me thinks not).

they took offence and said ed was a old fart and motherf**ker. the whole E interview was very negative towards vh. some media got hold of it and ran it as a feud between the two groups. i did read an interview later when knob suckers were back in their mother land, the good old USA, and they said that it was a media beat up and they meant nothing they said. spineless poofters. at least have the conviction to stand by your comments.....regardless if it is to the media of a small country or the media of the USA. no talented bit time players. they have not earned the right to critise a band of VH standing. and that goes for any new band bad mouthing any band like vh, rolling stones, etc.......respect. something these wastes of space obviously know nothing about.

Yeah, I remember seeing that on TV but I am pretty sure it was the fag drummer that was doing all the talking. He had the nerve to call Ed a sissy which obviously pisses me off as I believe even my sister could kick his faggot ass. I think I have this on video somewhere as well as another interview the fags did with Molly Meldrum (another fag) where they were also slamming Ed.

Thanks Peavey, I couldn't agree more with your reply. They obviously think they are such king shit that they can bag a time tested true rock band. They have no respect and we'll see soon enough they won't make it. They have no talent - they (like most other new rcok bands at the moment) are driven on image - not skill. Vh is cut from an entirely different mold. Good on ya Eddie for saying what you really think (something more people should do).

Roshambo, Peavey, good to hear from some fellow Aussies. Yeah, it could have been the drummer (they're all just fags to me!) - he was probably acting all mucho to impress Molly. They are such a nothing band - that's all there is to it. I just can't believe the lack of respect for a guy who just shits all over them in any way you look at it.
