I wonder if the R and R hall of fame focus more on american bands then any other? Then again, they have put alot of british bands in, just not many canadians. Any thought's on that?

    Yes. <ahem>

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can rim-job a mad cow having Olestra ejectings after being force-fed 200 gallons of prune juice and and feedbag full of Tommy's chili fries as far as I am concerned.

    Thank you and god bless.

    Default HOF

Who cares really, the Rock & Roll HOF is a sham. They don't have the real people that deserve to be in it. Black Sabbath not in? Cmon, fan or not how can they not be in. Theres too many to mention, but there are a lot of bands that should be in and arent. I won't lose sleep over it.

    As well they should.
Q: Recording the album took so long your Australian tour last year was cancelled. What was it like in the studio? There's a history of tension between you and Eddie Van Halen...

Mellencamp, Miles Among Rock Hall Nominees

    from www.billboard.com:

    By Barry A. Jeckell, N.Y.

Rock veteran John Mellencamp, jazz legend Miles Davis and rap pioneers Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five are among the 15 acts being considered for the 21st class of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Artists are eligible 25 years after the release of their first record.

The field of artists making up this year's ballot is rounded out by Blondie, Cat Stevens, the Patti Smith Group, the Sex Pistols, the Stooges, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Sabbath, the Dave Clark Five, the J. Geils Band, Chic, Joe Tex and the Sir Douglas Quintet.

Inductees are selected by a panel of musicians, music industry professionals and journalists. Results are generally announced before the end of the year, with formal induction traditionally taking place in March at a ceremony in New York.

This year, performers Buddy Guy, the O'Jays, the Pretenders, Percy Sledge and U2 joined the Rock Hall, as did concert promoter Frank Barsalona and Sire Records co-founder Seymour Stein. Highlights of the ceremony at New York's Waldorf Astoria hotel were broadcast by VH1.

Surprised no one's talking about this in here.

    John Mellencamp - sure

Miles Davis - ah, he's a musical genius, a legend and all, but rock 'n roll? I know there are some big time Miles Davis fans around here - help us out - is this a legitimate pick or does Miles Davis have about as much to do with rock 'n roll as New York City does with "Southern Hospitality"?

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - I respect these guys in the rap genre, but again, about the only thing they have to do with rock is that they sampled some songs from the genre to rap over.

    Blondie - sure

Cat Stevens - can't deny he did have a good run with his music, but geez...

the Patti Smith Group - I think so

the Sex Pistols - there's a lively debate!

the Stooges - not as big as some others, but I have heard them cited as an influence often.

    Lynyrd Skynyrd - hell yeah!

Black Sabbath - I thought they wanted no part of this - or did Sharon find a way to make a buck off it?

the Dave Clark Five - say what? Their biggest (and about only) hit was "Anyway You Want It" and I didn't even like it when KISS did it!

the J. Geils Band - definitely

Chic - maybe. Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers have done a lot of stuff in all forms of popular music.

Joe Tex - I only know a few songs and he's cool, but comes off as a bit of a James Brown knock-off

Sir Douglas Quintet - heard of 'em, can't name a single song, even while looking at their discography.

And of course, everyone wants to know - where's Van Halen?

Skynyrd, Sabbath, and the Sex Pistols are no brainers. (say what you want about johnny, sid, and punk, these guys had a major influence on virtually any hard rock act in the late seventies/all of the eighties).

    Mellencamp and Blondie, alternates.

    The rest, iffy.

Didn't the Blind Loon start a thread about this? I thought I translated his post re: the incoming inductees.

Damn shame about those VH brothers. LSD or not, the RRHOF is supposed to recognize the musical contributions of the artist, not worrying about the current state of the band. I know that they're probably questioning what would happen should invites go out and to who and all that. That shouldn't matter.

They're supposed to recognize the influence and music of the artist. I always thought VH was pretty influential back in the day. They still are according to some of today's musicians. What would VH do if they got the nod?

He didn't start one in this forum if he did!

I don't think they would base the nominations on who would show up - I mean, hell, if that was a criteria then ol' Yusaf Islam never would've got nominated as I don't think he's even allowed in the country!

I don't think I have a problem with too many of the people that have been inducted into Cleveland, it's more the people that still haven't. I wish they'd post on their website a list of the inductees by year of first release (since that's their criteria anyway) - that would help I think show up where the holes are. But I do think calling themselves the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame" becomes a misnomer with some of the acts as they encompass a lot more than just what you or I would consider rock 'n roll. More like a popular music hall of fame - nothing wrong with that, either. But even that's not completely right, because not every hall-worthy musician or band was necessarily "popular"...

Miles Davis does NOT belong in a Rock n' Roll hall of fame. Musical Genuis and Legend, Definatley! But for Jazz, Dammit. Let me know when the Trumpet becomes a mainstream rock instrument and then maybe he could be elligable.
