Why is it that both Dave and Sammy feel the need to bash Ed and Al and call them "the Lying Dutchmen" and say that "Eddie is a crummy human being without a guitar in his hands" and making lewd comments about his wife and ragging on him for his drinking problem and cutting up cardboard cuttouts of Eddie and on and on blah blah blah...
and then at the same time make it no secret that they want back in the band and that a reunion is inevitable and basically sending out a message, via innuendo that, they want back in the band? Why?
I believe Ed and Al listened to us and really wanted it to work with Dave the THIRD time around, but it was not in the cards. I wanted it to happen just as much as any of the Roth fans. And I commend them for giving Dave one more shot.
The more I hear Sam and Dave rant the more I believe Eddie's side of the story(ies)(regarding quitting or being fired).
Why should we as fans expect Ed and Al to give us constant updates on the band when all that the fans seem to want to do is bash Ed for kicking out Sammy and Dave and how much VHIII sucked and that his "love songs" sucked and how he is a dumbass for drinking and smoking and that the divorce was all his fault and blah blah blah? All this time this dude has been through some heavy shit the last few years... cancer, divorce, hip replacement, raising an 11 year old etc. But we feel that they "owe" us something. Bullshit. Sure we bought their records and went to their shows and bought their merchandise etc., but we did not buy a piece of "them". If I were Ed and Al I would give us the silent treatment as well and let the music do the talking when it finally comes out.
Sure this is America and we have the right for free speech and I respect that, but I think that the internet, and particularly this forum, keeping in mind that the "thousands" of "fans" online are a small but accurate cross sectional of the "millions" of Van Halen fans worldwide, and the mostly unfriendly banter, has really been a reality check for the band and the fans as well.
imho

I 100% agree with everything you said.
It makes me sick, to see how people treat them, when they have "given us" the most incredible music in the history of Rock n'Roll.
If VH can't get respect, theirs no hope for any of us.
Van Halen, are simple without a doubt the greatest group of 4 musicians to walk the planet.
(ALthough Led Zep & the Beatles are a close 2nd, IMHO)

Like Eddie sang, "We're just humans. Humans being."
That is why athletes don't read newspapers and magazines because someone is usually ragging on them. Who knows, maybe Ed and Al don't go on the internet because of some of the negative comments.Remember the Heroes - 9/11/01

No matter what VH does at this stage, a large chunk of fans isn't going to like it. Gary found that out the hard way.
So what's the point for them to try and appease the fans? They can't, really.
On the other hand, like everyone else, I would like to know what they're thinking.Staying Frosty
