I have to admit that I've been one of the many people who have been sitting around waiting since 1998 or whenever it was that Gary Cherone left the band anxiously awaiting some type of Van Halen reunion or resurgence. For a while I was on this site everyday hoping to see someone posting something along the lines of "hey I was just at www.van-halen.com and I read that Dave agreed to X-percentage and will be singing on their new album." Of course that never happened and here we are still waiting. While Van Halen is something that never exited my mind I quit checking websites and news gathering sources hoping that I'd maybe hear about their current status word-of-mouth surprise style but that never happened either. I also know that Sammy Hagar has made it clear that he isn't interested so that left only one avenue in my opinion - to get Dave back. As far as a 4th singer is concerned, maybe it would work musically and some great stuff would happen but we ARE talking about the music business here where image and marketing matter. So after all this time and apparently no action at all, I figure it's best to just let the band fade into the past along with Led Zep and all the other great rock bands (this isn't a bad thing) and just move on with our lives or our own bands for the musicians on this site. Peace..

Good post IMO up until the end. When a band's music grabs you and takes you on a ride, it's tough to just let it go. I'm pretty positive that in my lifetime, I will not like another band like I have Van Halen. Their music has inspired me, picked me up when I was feeling down, and pumped me up for sporting events. No matter how many times I've listened to their songs, if I hear one on the radio, not only do I NOT change the channel but the volume goes up. All I'm saying is that everyone in this world has something they love so much, it's almost impossible to let go. Led Zepplin is gone but definitely not forgotten. Van Halen has meant a lot to me and they will not be forgotten (at least not by me).

After all this time, it wouldn't break my heart to have it end. One way or another, they are nearing their end. Whatever the next step is, the time has come to let us know in plain english.

Going to send this to the Opinions forum.
