Freakin awesome video, they go crazy for 90 minutes. Ed played the 5150 stuff in this concert more like he did on their 1st album with all those expanded leads all the time. Sounds incredible I love it everytime I see it. Its the most uplifting concert video I have ever seen! I am lucky to get to experience it though a big TV and my decent stereo speakers cause its just not the same hearing it though small TV speakers!

Anyone your thoughts on the video?

I haven't seen all of either video, but I've heard them both. Great, great stuff. You really get a feel for how tight they can be live. On LWAN I especially liked hearing the 5150 material and Ed's solos. For me, the only thing that could top that would be to actually see and hear VH in person, but I'm not holding my breath. Great, great video! I remember watching it for the first time and thinking, 'these guys are going crazy and having a lot of fun'. The highlight for me is the song '5150'. The extended version is one of the best!

I love the video - unfortunately its spoilt by the awful clothes, bad haircuts and dodgy Spinal Tap rock poses.

“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

I also just watched LWAN for the first time in like 10 years, and was surprised at how much it looked like VH with Sammy Hagar as a guest singer.

They even open with a Hagar tune to boot.

I was also surprised at how out front Eddie wanted to be. Like there were two front men for the band.

Still a good video, just some things I noticed.

I also just saw a Dave bootleg from the EAS tour in Montreal. Vai was just amazing, and they played a ton of VH at that show. It really looked like the true continuation of VHI. Daves voice was still excellent then.

I think covering old Halen must be way easier than covering Vai/Roth material. Probably why Yankee Rose sounded so awful on this tour.

I guess the two behemoths just went their seperate ways.

LWAN is fun to watch for how well Ed, Mike and Al are playing together, but Sammy is tough on the ears. Starting with his annoying "Hello New Haven" to the unbearable "It's 5150 time" explanation, he just stinks all the way through.

Then he's shoving his pit in Eddie's face and kicking him in the ass toa riff in 5150 - it's just in plain old bad taste.

I agree. I also think they're all way too conscious of the cameras. Sammy's singing to one, Eddie's giving the thumbs up with a cheesy grin, Alex is winking at another, Mikey sticking a pick to his forehead. It's almost like they were more interested in playing for the cameras that evening than the fans in the arena.

And, yes, the clothes are atrocious. However, Van Halen was never about fashion.

VH was about fashion. Many kids in my high school (early 80s) wore a bandana (around the leg) or had Reebok high tops. VH played a pretty big role in a lot of kids clothing decisions.

Remember when everyone had painted denim jackets...ah The Yes Songs, or Zep or VH. Was a nice simpler time back then.

I must agree it is a great fuckin video. I've got the bootleg cd so i dont watch the vhs much anymore but i might break that bad boy out tonight. I'm actually in a VH3 mood though so i'm going with VH live at Madison Square Garden 1998. Just a flat out great show..and it's very cool to hear the guys play Somebody get me a doctor and I'm the one again. But back to LWAN..i remember when i first bought the VHS. It was back in 1996 my sophomore year in high school. I was just gettin back into rock after years of just listening to rap music, and i really didnt know what to expect from this video. I had also never seen tapping before so when i watched Eddie do Summer Nights i was just like Just a total amazing show and watching it over and over and over again has helped me cop some of Eddies tapping licks. The one thing i can never watch is Mikey's solo..I know he was fucked up and all but i know that Mike can play better then that. It was basically just him beatin the fuck outta his bass for 8mins. The part i love is after his solo when they're about to get into Panama sammy comes over and kicks his bass and Mikey's face is a must see. I really dont think he appreciated Sam doin that too much

LWAN was great, but RHRN was far superior. In LWAN, I thought you could tell how the guys were still getting used to having Sammy at the mic. Two albums later when RHRN came along, they seem to work together on stage like a well-oiled machine.

LWAN was the video that converted me from a die-hard Roth fan to a die-hard Sammy fan.

I remember that when EEAS came out, I thought that Van Halen would never be able to pick up the pieces and get to what’s real.

My older brother got me the LWAN video out of guilt for not taking me to see them at the Great Western Forum. He took his girlfriend instead.

Anyway, I am sitting there watching them and so far so good. Then came the moment that made me realize that Sammy was the man.

You guys remember the vocal guitar duel right before Best of Both Worlds? Sammy’s voice just blew everyone away and you can see how much Eddie was all into his new singer. That smile on Eddie’s face was real. I never saw Eddie that way when Roth was fronting the band.

Sammy Hagar to me sounds different with Van Halen than when he does as a solo artist.
Eddie and Sammy are a chemistry that just works no matter what kind of music they write.
What is understood, need not be discussed.

well I can't complain about the clothes because it was the 80s after all and I don't care--the
music man the music!!!
But I do agree that sammy's screams were a bit to much and introducing the members as the greatest rock players ever was a little weird even though I would tend to agree! LWAN just looked like a blast!
