I read Ericgtr's story about getting the autograph from Ed outside Ed's house. Anyone else have any stories about meeting any of the band members? What were the guys like? Spare NO details!

June 1984, Peoria Ill. Walking into Peoria civic Center for first ever VH concert. Friends spotted Michael Anthony walking across a lawn area towards the venue. I was the only one with guts enough to approach him. Very cool, said hello, shook hands, etc.

May (?), 1986. After another Peoria show, we heard a rumor they were staying at a local hotel. Searched it through, but nothing. Later, several friends report seeing the band eating in a truckstop dive on I-74 between Peoria and the Quad Cities a few hours after the show. They got autographs, guitar picks, pictures, the works. This is only about 20 miles from where I lived at the time. Still have the bruises from kicking myself.

October '95. Iwas in Ft. Lauderdale for a week checking on a potential job. Late one morning I was lying on the beach when Dave walked right in front of me. I called out to him and he walked over seeming surprised and happy to be recognized. We sat on this beach wall for about 30 min. checking out the women. As cool as Dave was he is extremely hyper and just babbled and laughed the whole timee. Exhausting experience but really, really cool!

I worked in a Hotel eatery in Albuqeurque NM when I was in High School and Van Halen played the previous night. So I come into work at O Dark 30 and in the corner booth all by himself was Eddie Van Halen. I about freaked out. So my boss comes over to me and he told me "Do not go over there, I mean it!" Yeah OK. So I just stood there and stared at the man and he was just sitting there with a coffee cup in front of him and smoking like a freight train. So....I decided that well I must work so I took a pot of coffee over to him and said..."Um...Mr. Van Halen? Um....great show last night, your you know...like the best ever. Would you like another cup of coffee?" And Eddie looks up right at me and he said..."F*ck off kid."
At the time I thought that was the coolest thing ever. Damn I was proud. I was fired 30 minutes later. But it was worth it.

i met dlr on the eeas tour and vh on the 5150 tour. i had a friend in high school whose grandparents basically ran the colisuem in town, so therefore she got free tickets, back stage passes etc... to every show. when dave was in town, he wanted to ride his bike around town, and my friend was his companion for the ride.
anyway, got to see daves soundcheck and meet steve, billy and bis. dave wasnt around much backstage but i did get him to autograph my shirt. i dont remember the exact words, but i heard him say fort wayne had a bunch of ugly chicks. was pretty funny. i wasnt too excited about meeting dave because at the time i was much more of a van hagar fan. i actually remember asking someone next to me at the concert what dave was singing and it was unchained. 1984 was the first album i bought. didnt discover the aerlier vh until late 1980's.
i also got to meet vh with hagar the same way. al had his glasses on and must have been pissed about something cause he didnt say shit to anybody. i brought my 5150 w/me for the band to sign and alex is the only one i didnt get. he saw me walkin towards him with my album in hand and took off. so, to this day, i still say hes a dick!! ed, mike and sam were really cool. mike and sam pretty much made it a point to mingle. ed did a bit, but when he did, sammy was at his side doin most of the talkin. and mike was as down to earth as anyone ive met. i was kind of shellshocked as a 16 year old to be amongst their presence, but something i will never forget.
i also got to hear the sound check for both concerts (and a ton of others). and we left a little before they opened the doors so we could get the best seats. but never on the floor cause i was way too skinny and woulda gotten beat to death.

I met Michael Anthony at Peppers in Arcadia last Cinco de Mayo through his brother Steve who was cutting my hair at the time. Wrote about the whole thing back then along with some other VH Linkers who were also that night. <Note: Mark that date on your calendars for this year, cause that is where he hangs out on Cinco de Mayo> Anyways, while I was posting on the MA Caption thread, it brought something to mind that Mike said when I offered to buy him a drink - and this won't make the Jack Daniels people very happy - but Mike said that actually the Cuba Libres (Rum and Cokes w/lime) had been going down a lot more lately.

What year was this? Ed sounds like he could have been drunk (chances are if it was a day of the week in the 1980's). Keep the stories coming people they're great!!

Unfortunatley it was the year VH 3 came out 98/ 99 I was working at a label and had some pull with the local virgin.....(records) so I got to meet all 4 at the signing and listen party to the new album. Everyone was milling around as this atrocity was looped for us for over 2 hours. I was embarassed for them. People were snickering, making jokes, laughing etc. How a label could have let them release that is still beyond me. Anyhow in HS my younger brother scott had made a minature frankenstein guitar ( little guitar). I brought with me to the signing. First I met alex, arrogant and dismissive, signed an album, next.... Gary very much a dick. MA very frinedly remembered my name talked a while told him bout a pick I caught of his back in 88 on 5150. I see ed stoned to the hilt smiling reaking of smoke. I hand it to Ed to sign and he just is staring at rollling it around, feeling it . smiles asks some questions sign, it edward van halen 98' devalued it right there. The old adage dont meet your heroe;s they will disappoint is true.

I met DLR,Alex & Mike at the Hyatt in Dallas in 1983. David Lee looked at me and my buddy and said " Whats happenin'". We just said " Uh...not...uh...much " LOL!

We got Al's & Mike autograph but Dave refused to. He was a jerk. We later saw Eddie & Val standing outside of Reunion Arena smoking a cig and my buddy yelled at them " Hey Eddie,Val!" and they waved at us. We were about 10 yards away from them but couldnt get any closer.

We stayed one floor below (or above...I can't remember) at the Hyatt for their concert(s). David Lee was only wearing red & black checkered spandex with cowboy boots. No shirt. He was also wearing shades. This was in the lobby of the hotel. Alex and Mike were nice to the fans but when this black chick asked DLR for his autograph he said " Only if you can tell me the name of my band" and the chick said "Van Halen!" and he just walked off.

We got in the elevator with Al & Mike and right before the door shut one of their body guards said " Not today guys" and pushed us out.

I have since lost the autographs : / I also meet Kiss( withOUT their makeup!) way back in 1977 at a cheesy motel ( Green Oaks Inn ) and got to talk to Gene and got his autograph which I have also lost : /

Good Times!
