Sammy "The Tool" Hagar

I finally heard Serios JUJU on the radio and I see that Sammy is going for that Tool sound. About six months ago in Guitar World Sammy and Victor both said that they were currently listening to Tool's AENIMA album. I laughed when I read that because I suddenly pictured Sammy singing with Tool: "WHY CAN'T WE JUST BE SOBERRRRRR!"
To my horror, Serious JUJU reminded me of that article. The song left me feeling a little shocked. But I didn't think the song was that bad, not that good either (keep in mind I'm not that crazy about Sammy's solo stuff). Juju however kind of made me interested in how the rest of 10/13 will sound. Does anyone else hear that Tool vibe on JUJU?

Never really listened to Tool before, so, ah, not sure exactly what you mean.

There's a pretty good variety on the album from the dark, serious (Serious JuJu) to light and fun (Tropic of Capricorn), to Sammy just screwing around (Ten13). If you like SJJ and you've liked some of the more recent Sammy material (M2M), chances are high you'll like Ten13.

I would certainly say that Serious JuJu is not really indicative of the direction of the album as a whole.

I love Sammy, and I really like a lot of Tool. This is definitely NOT in a "tool" direction. Serious JuJu is one of the worst songs on the album, and doesn't really sound like the rest of the songs, as was mentioned. Maybe they were getting inspired by some hard songs, and decided to try one, but IMO, it's not really that much like Tool.
The rest of the album is KILLER, great delivery by Sam and his band.
