when they laughed and were best friends.
when they were as tight as a band could be.
Edward, give your "best friend" a call, he misses you and you miss him.'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

Eddymon, lately you've been all over the "get Sammy back" side of the ledger. Why the change of heart, I thought you wanted Dave back more than Sammy?

Actually I haven't been caring to much about VH lately.
As much as I would love to see a reunion with Dave, I don't think it would stand the test of time.
Whereas getting back with Sammy, IMO will help the band grow musically without being stuck in the "80's mode".
Its like having a quarterback like Drew Bledsoe who can only stand and pass the ball and thats all you will get from him, and having a quarterback like Brett Favre that brings more to the game and wins you titles.
Stats look good on paper, but winning it all is what matters.'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

There seems to be two common misconceptions (or at least completely unfounded speculation) as regards Sammy.
1. The Van Halen's hate Dave but their "friendship" with Sammy ended purely because of Ray Danniels and if they call each other it will be right again.
I just don't see any justification for this. Sammy and Eddie were "friends" when Sam was in VH but they've hated each other ever since. Apparently Sammy just requires an apology, but Eddie with a shitload of free time on his hands hasn't found the time or the will to do that in FIVE years. In that time VH have tried not once but twice to do stuff with Dave - and even when it doesn't work out they don't seem to contact Sammy. Strange considering what good friends they are/were and thus Sammy should be the logical person to call.
2. With Sammy they will stay together on a more permanent basis.
**news flash** Sammy is in his mid fifties, the VH brothers are pushing 50 and in bad health. In the best of times, they only managed an album every 3-4 years. Wishful thinking just about stretches to one more VH album and tour, but if anyone sees a long and healthy future beyond that with ANY singer.........then I've got a nice bridge across the East River for sale.Delusions of eloquence

Ed worked with Dave in '96 from just one phone call. But really, the friendship between Sam and Ed was strained to the breaking point by the suspicions and paranoia the brothers Halen were feeling during the time surrounding '95-'96. Ray Danniels did a wonderful job fueling that paranoia. He's gone. Yes, it would take some effort for the brothers to overcome the damage that was done, but if they really wanted to and Sam really wanted to, it could be done.
Of course, them wanting to is the hard part.

**news flash** Sammy has put out three albums in the five years since '96, and is working on his fourth. The holdup isn't Sammy. Van Halen could have a new album out like clockwork every, say, two years if they wanted to. The problem with working with Dave is it has blown up so many times in the past, it WILL blow up again. Mix throngs of cheering fans, the spotlight, and fame in with DLR's personality and you have pure nitro. If the man doesn't drop the group because he can't stand working with them, he'd drop the group because he obviously never learned that he can't do it on his own."Just once I'd like to do the right thing and not get punished for it."

***Prediction from Cabo's crystal ball***
Whether VH reunite with Dave, Sammy or John Doe, Van Halen have one album / tour left in them. The silence is a pretty good indicator they are thru with the touring and the cases of LSD they haven't had to deal with since 1996-7.
Mike looked like he was having a good time with the Doobies a couple weeks ago and I'd bet he'll end up with Sammy for some extended period of time for the "jams on the beach" in Cabo.
We'll be extremely lucky if they even show up at the HOF, IF anyone still remembers how to spell their name to nominate them at that point."Once the final BAN has been completed I will ban myself." -OLO, March 21, 2002

The last year and a half make me wonder if there are any happy days left for Van Halen. 1 album and 1 tour left in them is probably correct.
Things dont look good for a release anytime soon thats for sure.
Too bad so sad !
