Are we all white?

O.K....Here it is. Do you guys have friends who ain't white who dig the mighty VH? It doesn't mean anything, but I see VH with much wider potential appeal across racial/ethnic borders than, say, Metallica. If you look at the 90's success of Living Color, there's gotta be other folks of color who dig what the guys throw down...

I'm sure other races and ethnicities like Van Halen. There are bound to be some. Just a side note on the subject, the guitarist for Sam's band the Waboritas is black if that says anything as far as if other races dig our music taste.

VH's fan base is predominantly white male, but I was under the impression that the guy who posts here under "vh3fan" is an African-American. I could be wrong.

We're not a very racially diverse bunch here on Links. However, we have a few different ethnicities represented with people like Eddie_italian, and I know that there are tons of VH fans in Japan! Plus, there's VH websites in all kinds of languages other than English, so what does that tell you?

Which is great, I'm just happy being able to converse with fellow Van Halen fans; it makes no difference to me what the racial background, sex, sexual preference etc is of anyone here.

I would guess (and hope) that that's the way that everyone feels.

I guess I really don't think about race/sex/creed (Not the band LOL) etc... when I talk with people here. I could really care less about that...We all share one important think in common-----&gt;Van Halen

To me it's ridiculous to attempt to seperate inidviduals in society inot different groups. Who cares what color or what sex someone is? We're all human and we're all in this crazy world together.


Just my thoughts on it all....

I definitely believe Van Halen has crossed the interest of the African American Community. Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones had Ed on "Beat It." Ton Loc and Public Enemy sampled Van Halen music in Rap songs, and Vernon Reid of Living Color sites Eddie as one of his major influences. Whoopi Goldberg was a fan of the band during the Sammy era and Arsenio Hall was a big VH supporter as well. Stanley Jordan and Eddie share mutual admiration after meeting during the Les Paul tribute in 1988. Boys II Men were pulling for and celebrating with Van Halen when they won at the American Music Awards in 1992.

Being that many of the above are major artists, I think the African Community has gained exposure to the sound and style of the band from these artists in some way.

As for people I know personally, I think I have met two or three in my lifetime that really loved VH.

They are the peoples band.

Funny you guys bring this up, because ive always noticed that alot of black folks who are into rap or whatever who normally dont like rock, do like David Lee Roth. Ive actually noticed there are alot of them that like Van halen. Not just Van halen as a whole really, but mainly Dave. I remember when i was in elementary school there was one black dude who the David Lee ROth was the coolest there ever was. Maybe it has to do with his Pimp like way. I also saw that PUFF DADDY guy on VH-1 and he said 1984 was the first rock record that he actually liked because the lead singer was so "ILL".

Well me being red,white & black, Van Halen is the best rock and roll band ever.

But it does seem like the original line-up of VH has more of a racially widespread fanbase than the other eras.

I think that Dave had that appeal because of his "fuck what others think" approach.

He can make anyone laugh with his comments and videos.
