I wish Eddie would do an instrumental blues album. I want to hear him do 74 minutes (length of a cd)of heavy blues jamming. I've briefly heard him play the blues before and it was awesome. I would love it if he could just put Roth/Hagar/Cherone/4th Singer days behind him and just flat out jam the blues.

Iz somebody talkin' 'bout the three B's up in herre one time????? Not Bach, Brahms, n Beethoven--talkin' some barrelhouse, blues, and boogie woogie YEZ YEAH!!!!!!
I've always dug Eddie an' Al's jam from the '84 Tour,"Sittin' On Top Of The World,"(Mississippi Sheiks,Howlin' Wolf,Cream). An' his bluesy 316s were always a wang dang doodle fo' mofo sho'!! I'd like to hear Ed's jam with Leslie West, too...a lil' Never In My Life...King Edward played a mean, lowdown Outside Woman Blues, too!!
That ol' jam with Brian May iz pretty cool indeed!
Any of y'all cool cats n kitties remember the atomic blues, foot-stompin' version of Jimmy Reed's,"Bright Lights Big City," that Van Rothin' vetted up durin' the 1980 World Invasion?!?!?! THAT'S THE BLUES RIGHT THERE Y'ALL!!!!!!

I think an instrumental solo album is long overdue for Ed. Great post.

I think if Eddie did a Satriani-type instrumental album it would kick ass. IMO that would be the next-best thing to a new album with either Sam or Dave.

I don't think a reunion with Dave or Sammy will happen and I'm not interested in hearing a 4 lead singer, so I for one would love to see an album full of Ed's happy blues as he calls it.

Cool, I'm glad there are a few other fans out there with the same opinion.
I've got some mp3 called Eddie rage guitar solo and its freakin awesome!!! It might be from the 1984 tour. About 2 minutes in, he just starts jamming some badass blues!! Killer stuff. The solo in A Year to the Day is good, too. A whole album of that would be just perfect.Leave everything to me!-Powdered Toast Man

This would be a very cool idea indeed....For those who haven't heard yet, Satriani's latest album is quite excellent...Ed could definitely carry an instrumental album with his playing. He is a helluva blues player. As I mentioned in another thread, on the "Baked Potato Bar & Grill" bootleg with Steve Lukather, Eddie just tears it up on the blues standard "Red House". Great post Ashe...after all these years of silence from the band,I never thought about an instrumental guitar album from Ed. Somebody call Steve Vai and tell him to get Ed signed up on his Favored Nations label.....

Didn't something once come out where Clapton told Eddie to his face that he'd never be a blues guitar player?
That being said, and inaccurate in my opinion, I'd dig hearing some more bluesy type VH tuneage.... Q: Recording the album took so long your Australian tour last year was cancelled. What was it like in the studio? There's a history of tension between you and Eddie Van Halen...
DLR: It was like a stand off in a Chuck Norris movie. We each had the laser dot on everybody's forehead waiting for the other guy to blink. Except for Wolfie, he had a Super Soaker ...

Yeah, I've got Satriani's latest. He's great. You know, he's been putting out quite a few albums in the last few years. Know why? He doesn't have to deal with singers!!!! Eddie should adopt this strategy. But it needs to be the blues. He's been doing the pop/rock thing for a while now, and this would shed a whole new light on him. Let Sammy and Dave have their weird sideshow. Eddie and Alex have so much more to offer than playing "Ain't Talkin Bout Love" and "Why Can't This Be Love" for the millionth time.

....Eddie is one the most underated blues guitar players in the world.....just ask Jeff Beck....Eddie with a big horn section behind him " like the Brian Setzer thing " and a claboration with different singers ..would be a stir in the music world
..In 1984 Van Halen Jumped Panama
Topped Jimmy & Dropped Dead Legs
..Ill Wait in this House of Pain with the
Girl Gone Bad while I am really Hot for Teacher..
..Think it was easy ?..you stare at an album

I love Ed's playing but I've never heard him play a lick that comes close to blues. Doesn't mean he couldn't. i'd be first in line to buy an instrumental album.
