Any of y'all ever meet the boys? I'm interested to know whether they're cool or jerks.
I met Mikey breifly before the 84 show in Peoria. My friends spotted him walking into the arena a couple of hours before the show. While they stared dumbfounded, I approached him, said "hey" and shook his hand. No time to chat, but he was very cool.
I've heard conflicting reports about other band members (some cool, some cold). Anybody got any good stories?

I met them all "briefly" on the diver down tour. At the white Hall hotel in Houston, Ed Al and Mike quickly shook the dozen or so of our hands and all left together to go party or eat or something.
So we were bummed and went up to the hotel bar and low and behold, the diamond one at the bar. One big guy was keeping anyone from saying even hi to him, but luck was on our side. we tried to sit at a table close and the guard wasn't even gonna have that, but Dave bummed a cig from my friend for the chick he was with, and with just a nod of his head, we were allowed to sit and order our drinks.
We were close enough to hear him, voice was raspy and damn near gone (this was right after the show)
but we got bored after an hour and left, we found a bottle of jack just outside the bar door, like someone tried to hide it there.
We held it up through the window and Dave gave us a big ole thumbs up.
That is my very brief yet exciting brush with VH.

Never met any of the guys. Came real close to speaking with Dave via telephone though. Dave was on the radio program "Rockline" in support of ALAE. I called up the 800 number, and after waiting forever, some guy with a British accent says "Yes, what is your question for Mr. Roth?" I told this stiff that I'd like to know Daves opinions on all of the bands that had emulated the style that DLR had brought to Rock. "We appreciate only those questions dealing with Mr. Roth" was what I got, followed by CLICK!! O.K. there Jarvis, let's try again. After a few more attempts, I finally got through to this friendly lackey again and asked if Dave was still into kick-boxing. Well, they excepted this question and told me I'd be on soon. Dave kept answering questions, and I ended up holding on for about 45 minutes more. Finally some guy from the states startles me by saying I'm up next after the commercial break. Well low and behold, after the break, the D.J. comes on the radio saying "We are all outta time! Thanks for being here Dave!" Shit! American dude come back on the phone saying "sorry pal!" too me. Now, the deal was that everyone talking to Dave on-air that night would get an autographed copy of ALAE. So I asked the guy if I would still get my CD even though I came up just short. He took my name address etc. and assured me I'd get the autographed CD for hanging in there so long. Checked my mail everyday as soon as I got home. Didn't get shit! Hey you American Prick!!! I still remember your voice pal! And I will never stop searching for you!!!!!

All right Mikey!
I was fortunate enough to see them get off the bus on the Fair Warning tour. Shook Ed's hand. The next year I and some friends were more fortunate by being able to party with them after the Diver Down show in Dayton, OH. I posted a lengthy description of those lucky meetings earlier this year. Both times everyone was very cool and down to earth, even Dave, though he kept away from the rest of the band.
Peace,
GH4L

I've met the guys on numerous occasions, all except for DLR.
Mike and Sammy were the most congenial.
They both seemed to go out of the way to shake my hand.
Ed seems nice, but when there is a whole crowd of groupies,I think he get's bothered by the whole Rock Star thing, really quiet and the first to leave the room.
I have also met the guys individually at different times without all the fanfare, and that is where Ed really seemed like a person and laughed and joked etc.
It was really cool to see Ed in a more human persona rather than the guarded introvert that I had met before.
Nothing but good experiences for me thankfully.

Have met them all but Dave and Gary. Mike was the nicest, Sammy was pleasant, and Eddie seemed cool to me, I don't know. Al is OK, a little arrogant, but cordial. The other time I saw Eddie was by chance and he was outwardly friendly.

Well, I guess they are only human. If they are in a good mood they will be nice to their fans. If they are in a bad mood we better be wearing our cups!Peace out Eddie Van Halen.

I met them on the Balance Tour. It was brief.
I said to Mike, "the ace of bass" and he just laughed and shook my hand. Alex was all smiles and Sammy thanked me for coming, but I almost missed Ed.......
At "Meet and Greets" they really move you thru the process. They take your picture on the count of "3". No matter where you are, they just take the picture. As I was shaking Sam's hand I heard "1" and I was like "shit"!!!!! I rushed down and got infront of Eddie just as they took the picture. I was so flustured, I don't know what I was doing, just looking around and then I felt a tap on my shoulder and it was Ed. He said something like, "how you doing, enjoy the show." I couldn't say anything. Before the show, I had all this shit I wanted to say, but when he looked at me and talked and I just freaked. I remember we walked out of this "backstage area" and we all just started going crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My one friend told Eddie to not break his hip and Ed said something like, "god damn, I hope not............"
A very brief moment, but memorable. I have like a 20x26 picture in my bedroom. That's the only thing my wife let me hang up in the house.

I am a lighting tech for Cirque du Soleil "Mystere" in Las Vegas and I get the pleasure to meet a lot of people that come to show. During the Balance tour Sammy and Mike came backstage after the show and I had a nice conversation for about 20min. They asked a lot of questions about my show and were very nice. Just a few months ago Valerie Wolfie and Vals mother came to the show and backstage. We talked about the show and took some pictures then she said how she loved the show and thanks for the hopitality. She looked great and was very, very nice. I have to admit I was soooo tempted to ask about you know what but she was a guest and i am sure she gets it all the time where ever she goes. I figured she was taking a break from the situation at home so I did not have the heart to bring the subject up. Oh well it was just nice meeting her on my turf and having a nice talk with her.

I met the guys twice, once in 1993 and once in 1995, backstage at their show in Paris, France. Very cool experience. I talked to Mikey for about 15 minutes, joking that he could sing for the band. Then I had a pretty long talk with Alex about his drum solo and the instrumental "Doin Time" on Balance. Edward was a little more protective, I was introduced to him by Scotty Ross (tour manager), and we talked a little bit. Another time, he told me that Billy Sheehan was full of shit saying he almost joined VH. He also wasn't happy with BS' claims to have found tapping on his own. "He toured with us..." was Eddie's answer, and he didn't make a happy face saying that!
By the way, in 1995, Sammy wasn't hanging with the boys backstage. I asked were Sammy was, they said he was alone in his dressing room.
Altogether a very cool experience, though.
