Let me get this straight. Dave goes out on a highly publicized tour and plays a set list comprised of songs no more recent than 1986 and then gets pissed when Fallon remarks that his appearance at the '02 VMAs seems like "a clip from the 1984 Video Music Awards." Anybody else see the hypocrisy here besides me?

Actually Dave does a good enough job of knocking his self down every time he opens his mouth.Just thought it was funny Dave flipped him off.That jab at Dave and Sammy might have been the only thing semi-funny that Fallon said all night.He was by far the worst host I've seen do the MTV Awards.It just shows how far SNL has fallen for him to be one of stars on their show.The lamest part on the awards was when he kept saying that Rapper "Fat Joe" ate one of the Olsen Twins.I was hoping Fat Joe would go up their and kick his goofy no talent ass..

I don't think it was funny Glenn. I think it was disrespectful to make such a comment. I don't like Dave, his years w/ VH, yes! I do think that Jimmy Falon making such a comment, & then sucking Guns's dicks is ridiculous! C'mon man, do you really think they don't deserve some respect?

I hate to say it, but Dave was pretty pathetic, and I think Fallon was right on the money with his comment. I love Roth with Van Halen, but Roth is just plain embarrasing these days. So is Sammy, but not nearly to the same extent.

I don't get why anyone is surprised. That's what the presenters at these shows do, riff on the stars attending. Remember when Chris Rock hosted one of these shows a couple years back and he was going to town on Ricki Martin and all the others who were right there in the audience? That's the gig.

Is anyone offended that Jimmy Fallon made a crack about Michael Jackson having plastic surgery only seconds after the Freak of Pop walked off the stage? And his comment about Dave and Sammy was a million times more lighthearted.

I thought the comment was actually funny. Whoever the host for the VMAs, always seem to bust on everybody. I wouldn't take it so seriously. We all know that Dave is an original and a legend. As for Jimmy going ga-ga over Axl Rose, that was pretty pathetic.

I thought the crack was "kinda' funny. If it had come from someone with some talent, it might have been hilarious. But.... fallon's performance was TERRIBLE and I personally think he sucks!!! Just IMHO of course [img]smile.gif[/img]

I don't understand either why everyone seemed to gush over the ridiculous *Axl Rose n' guests* performance there. They were TERRIBLE.

On the other hand, the more I think about the Sam n' Dave tour, the more I see two rock dinosaurs trying to make a buck off of their time with Van Halen. If that weren't the basic premise of their tour - the reason MTV had them on at all - perhaps Fallon's joke wouldn't make sense. But it does, because both these guys are living in the past, and looking like it.

I know that Sam did mostly solo material, but come on, in the context of a "Heavyweights of Rock" tour with David Lee Roth, it's obvious that this tour was a "nostalgia trip". I'm thinking more and more that those two would have been better off - image-wise - had they stuck to their own tours. Had Sammy or Dave presented an award by themselves, it wouldn't have seemed so retro. If Dave had written new material, it wouldn't seem so retro.
