Peavey EVH Guitar "tallest in the world"
Bunkie-made guitar sign to be "tallest in the world"
6/21/2005
The Associated Press
BUNKIE, La. (AP) - This is no air guitar. Workers are putting in long
hours to make sure that a 112-foot-high, $1.9 million guitar sign with
neon strings is done by July 5.
"They just want to be able to say, 'we did it,'" said Todd Ducote,
foreman at Kojis & Sons Signs.
It's destined for the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi, Miss., about 200
miles east of this central Louisiana town of 5,000. for now, it's in
eight sections. Just one piece of the neck towers over its makers.
Ducote said Kojis & Sons beat out several other sign companies for the
job, partly by promising to finish in six months. The casino is
expected to open around Labor Day.
He and about 20 other welders, electricians and other workers are
putting in "every waking hour" to be sure to make deadline, Ducote
said.
"We had been trying to tap into the casino industry for some time,"
Ducote said. "It's mostly dominated by more well-known companies. So
getting our foot in the door seemed impossible."
Now that the foot's there, the company got a lot of attention at a
recent casino convention in Biloxi, he said.
The sign is so big that its support column had to be driven 90 feet
into the ground. The whole thing is engineered to stand up to 180-mph
winds, Ducote said.
Representatives from the Guinness organization will be on hand when the
sign is installed, he said, because it's to be the world's tallest
replica guitar.
The sign is a copy of one specific guitar: an HP Signature Peavey held
by rocker Eddie Van Halen during a promotion.
That's why that guitar is in Ducote's office for now.

When did EVH hold an HP for a promotion. Do they mean a Wolfgang?

Achievements:
This huge replica of Eddie's guitar is awesome but it still probably won't convey the big-ness of the stuff that comes from the little one.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
