Hi folks...
To my surprise, I saw the rathr large topic below and thought I had better get on to that, as any controversy from that Insider Interview was supposed to be industry related, not VH.
In fact, I had forgotten that VH reference until I saw these boards on my daily stop by, the next day.

Anyway, I mailed Steve Lukather, who I have a good relationship with and he replied:

"I sang backround vocals on the records that I was thanked and yes Ed Al and I are very old friends.
Eddie doesn't need another guitar player , however I have played live with Van Halen on a few occasions and Ed with Toto. I love those guys very much!" Luke

In light of what Luke said, I'll remove that answer from the Insider Interview. Unless it's proved otherwise, he was obviously wrong with that quote.

All the best,
Andrew.

PS. Check out Lukather's self titled CD from 1989, the track Twist The Knife features Ed on bass. Awesome track...

Umm, I think he meant that he has played live with VH and Ed has played live with him.
ExpandedConsciousness:

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

See guys I TOLD YOU he sang on those albums, not played! Some of you so quick to believe Ed wouldn't play on his albums, shame on you. This is Eddie Van Halen, no C.C. Deville!

Thanks Andrew for vindicating me.

If I remember correctly Steve played live in L.A. with Van Halen on the Right Here, Right Now Tour.

Steve played with the boys on "Rockin' in the Free World" both nights of the RHRN tour in Houston in 1993. I seen it with my own two eyes!

There was (a long time ago) a bar on Pacific Coast Highway. I think it was called Trancas Canyon Bar & Grill. From what I've been told Ed and Luke hung out there and often got up on stage and jammed either together or with whatever band might have been playing that night. Sadly about the time I turned twenty-one (1991). The bar closed down. Sucks huh?
