Let me begin by issuing this disclaimer...I am not a big fan of Creed, just a fan of rock music in general. I am, however, a huge, true VH fan. That being said...

I attended the re-scheduled Creed concert this weekend in NJ and it really saddened me. After all, Creed is argueably the most popular and commercially successful rock band over the past few years. I'm not sure what I expected going in but, it was a big dissappointment. The show and stage were actually pretty good too. I just couldn't help but wonder if this was the best it was going to get. I mean, they were playing their best and most popular tunes and the only people on their feet were those who were on the floor...and that was because it was general admission on the floor (ie: no cahirs).

Everything Creed did, from lights to fireworks to pyrotechnics, just made me think of the once mighty VH and how there was no equal! I constantly found myself thinking about what VH did during this song or that but mostly, I wondered why no one cared. If any of you were fortunate enough to see VH with Dave, or even with Sammy for that matter, you will remember the buzz of the crowd, the electricity, the unequalled power of their shows. They didn't need seats...no one used them. There were 20000 screaming fans on their feet even if they were sitting up in the rafters...every fucking night!

I will never forget seeing the entire light rack lower itself and hover @ 3 feet above Eddie's head while he busted out one scorching lick after another! Or Dave telling the asshole in the front row that he could fuck the asshole's girlfriend...if he wanted to...and the horrified look of understanding on the asshole's face when he realized that Dave spoke the truth! Music was a way of life and VH was our life's blood.

Music is in a sad, sad place. Boy bands, R&B, lip syncing. Horrible. It was in a similar place in the mid to late 70's when VH reached down our throats and ripped all of the vile shit out of us replacing it with their own version of what they believed to be, and what we have come to accept, as music.

Here's hoping Eddie and the boys...whoever they may be...can help us out of this hole.

Long live the Mighty VH!!!

Fucking amazing! How did I know that would be ther first response I got to this thread?

You missed the point, being...
Creed, while you can't begin to compare their musical talents with those possessed by VH, are extremely popular with people of all ages. Same was true with VH but that is where the similarities end. The best today has to offer can't compare with what VH gave us!

Point made and, hopefully, taken.

I totally understand your point dude.

Creed still sucks! Unfortunately they're really popular right now 'cause there isn't anything to go against it. I can think of a dozen bands right now that would blow away Creed but they don't get pushed as hard as Creed does because they don't necessarily appeal to 16 yr. old girls.

Anybody over 30 who likes Creed should be dragged out into the streets & shot. j/k

Creed is popular because they are one of the few bands playing straight up hard rock, and use a lot of melody. Not a lot of creativity to their music, their songs all seem to follow the same formula, Drop-D and everything is an offshoot of that "Higher" song. I have no problem with them, I don't think they suck, I don't they're good, it's just like...whatever. Although I do get a good chuckle when I see Mark Tremonti mentioned in guitar magazines as if he's a great guitar player or something. That is beyond laughable. All of a sudden, throwing a few Drop-D power chords together makes you a great guitarist...uh ok.

Yes I also do understand the point of the thread, just wanted to comment on Creed of course.

Great posts!!! You guys took the words right out of my mouth. Creed sucks because....Creed sucks!

If Van Halen had some music out now with Roth, there would be no comparison. VH Forever!

This is kind of a sad thread. It's a bit like the 'missing youth' thread.

It actually reminds me of that scene near the start of City Slickers when Billy Crystal says to his boss, "have you ever realized that this is the best you're ever gonna look, the best you're ever gonna do, and the best you're ever gonna feel, and it ain't that great?"

People sitting down for rock concerts and whining about people who are standing is something I've only ever seen in the US. What's up with that?

I wonder if back in the 80's......32 year old guys were saying "Van Halen Sucks...there's nothing like Led Zeppelin"

Creed's got a formula down and their working it to death.....It makes me wonder how they can make it last without burning out the fans.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

People sitting down for rock concerts and whining about people who are standing is something I've only ever seen in the US. What's up with that?</font>
I'll tell you. When I pay x amount of dollars to see someone perform live, I want to be able to fucking see them. Standing or not, you've still got the obligatory drunken asshole that can't stand up, let alone walk that has to fall on you and spill his beer on you. Then you got the two assholes behind you that get into a fight and roll down the hill into you and knock you down. Worse yet, they then get pissed at you because you were "in their way" and weren't paying attention to what's going on BEHIND YOU!!! (Silly me, I was coming to watch the band play which requires looking towards the stage). So then, you have to keep your frustration to yourself so as to not become one of the aforementioned assholes that gets into a fight.

Then you got the pricks that think its fucking hysterical to light their wax cups on fire and throw it into an unsuspecting crowd. And the headbangers and moshers who keep you from being able to walk to the nearest concession stand to buy a $6.00 beer, or go to the restroom and knock you over because they think you are part of the pit.

When I go to a concert, I want to stand up when necessary (standing ovations, someone is going to the rest room and you have to let them by, etc.). I want to be able to watch the show, hear the music, and enjoy it.

But then, that's just my opinion... I could be wrong.

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

Oops, forgot to mention the losers that throw their "Glo Sticks" into the crowd, hitting people in the head.

My wife's uncle who was in his mid 20's during the 80's actually told me he thought VH would just be another passing fad. So there ya go.
