you can set up a free website at www.20m.com in a few minutes. Simply upload the pic then reference it (http://mysite.20m.com/cooledpic.jpg) in the Image tags in your post.
Or attach in an email it to me: toasty@post.com and I'll post it.

it won't let you post it all because the file looks too big, it probably exceeds their limit. Do you have any type photo editor on your computer? Resize that puppy and crop the crap.

Thanks ericgtr,
Now on to the picture, I'd love to hear a tape of that, anybody know what they played? For two survivors - heroin(West) and cancer(Ed)I think they look like they're doing alright.

All I can say about this photo, is thanks to Leroy for putting it up, and this is what it's all about, and why we are here. Ed out playing the guitar, with anyone, is a great thing, as it shows he still has the fire, at least from time to time, and from all he's gone through in the last 2 years, it would be very easy for that flame to burn out. Yeah, he's a great guitarist, but still, he is only human, a human who has gone through the emotional and physical ringer.
I mean, really, think about it people. If anyone one of us had gone through cancer, marriage difficiulties, lost yet another singer from your band, ran into a brick wall with a record company that you helped keep on the map for years and helped pad their stack only to have them tell you what you need to do, and in all truthfullness, would you want to jump headfirst into resolving differences you had with the 2 men everyone is yelling for you to go play with.
I think the only people who can possibly understand are people who have tried to make it work playing music with people, and have had to move on for the good of their sanity, and also to keep the music meaning something to them. Without the feeling of loving playing the music, it is nothing more than a hollow effort.
I love both Dave and Sammy, and Gary too, even though I think he should have sang a half step down like he did in Extreme, and would love to see all of them work with Van Halen again, but only if Eddie is well, and it means as much to him to play music with those guys now, as it did on the best day he had playing with each of them in each of their respective eras. That would be the real deal. I know, stubborn as I am, that Eddie, Alex and Mike can make great music with any number of singers, simply because they are a great band. Any singer would love to go up to 5150 and rip through the back catalog, or just tear through a batch of covers with these guys, just because of the energy that is put out when they play.
I think at this point, it is going to take someone with that same energy as well as vocal ability comparable to the music ability of the actual band, before we will ever hear anything again from VH.
I'm not saying that they could can't make great music with Dave or Sammy, I think they could tear it up with either one, and a great many fans would eat it up. But this isn't Star Trek where the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one. Eddie doesn't have to take one for the team like Spock did. This is real life, and Ed's taken a good number of shots, physical and emotional of late, and in all honesty, his happiness is just as important as anyone fan here who thinks they've got it all figured out.
I think we all got spoiled during the Dave era in that they put out an album a year almost. And still kept a pretty steady flow of music coming with Sammy, as well as 2 live videos. And all that great music we have to put on anytime we want, as well as what has to be one of the largest catalogs of bootleg material around for any band from that era, and that is a testament to the fact that so many people were diggin' what VH was doin', even before they put out an album.
Next year being the 25th anniversary could mean at the least some type of compilation box set release from WB, as well as some coverage in the guitar mags. Dave is out playing, Sammy is out playing, as is Gary and the Tribe of Judah. Let's let Ed get his affairs in the order he feels he needs to, business, personal and physical, and then maybe he will feel up to the task of doing what it is he has said he will always do, and that is make music. You can never go back, but you can move forward, and whatever happens, the least we can do is give it a listen. People talk about VH owing the fans, well that's a two way street. I treasure the music VH has given us so far enough to always give anything any present or former member of the band puts out a chance. I owe them that much simply because of all the great times their tunes have brought me. If I don't like it, the world keeps spinning, and even if I don't like it, Eddie and Co., or Dave or Sammy liked it enough to write the lyrics and work up the music, record the stuff, and put it in a package where we can listen to it if we choose to buy it. Eddie has always said he makes music for himself and if anyone else digs it, all the better. Well, I think if Gary hadn't left on his own, they'd still be making music together, because I believe Ed when he says it's about what he feels about the music.
Making music is a great thing, and when you write and play something you wrote, it's never the same when you play cover tunes again. I never understood why Ed didn't care so much for doing the cover tunes until I started writing my own stuff. You can still lock into some serious grooves playing covers, given you are jammin' with capable players, but the feeling of jamming your own stuff with other people, and them diggin' playing it as much as you do, well that's the shit.
Get well Ed, and tap into that part of you that brings us all here daily to hope to hear you are ready to bring the noise again! God willing, when Eddie is well in all ways, I know the best is still yet to come. I wouldn't be here otherwise.John 3:16, Can You Dig It?
People, the 6 wings of the Mighty Van Halen will fly again! Can You Dig It?
You gotta give more than you take! Can You Dig it?
And underneath the arch, it turned into a march,
and there He found a spark to set this fucker off!
Set it off, set it off now children, set if off!
We are down the road! I Can Dig It! Can You?

Fantastic post WARHEAD.
You nailed it there. Can't wait to see the guy when he's got all of his stuff sorted out.
I went out to buy the mag just to see what all the fuss was about, and was just so excited to see his picture there (plus two advertisements in Guitar World).
Like you say, there's more important things in people's life, as I know myself with the loss of a relative, and it takes time to sort yourself out.
It may seem like a long time since we've seen him live, but we've got the albums, and at least this is evidence that he is still ready and able to do it.
We've just got to wait as long as it takes, and hope we hear more fantastic news like this in the future.

Great post & great pic!! Now if only someone here could take that pic and post it over at the Guitar World Magazine Messageboard so the editors, Alan Paul & Brad Tolinski, can see it. They are always craving any VH related news. I know there is a section on the messageboard titled ASK THE EDITORS. I know for a fact those editors read that section every damn day. These cats are raring to do a special all VH issue to coincide with the 25th anniversary of VH's debut coming up now in the beginning of 2003. I have been told the VH camp is not doin interviews, for whatever reason. They can do the all VH issue without them, but of course, would much rather that VH be involved in it. Especially since the issue will mainly cover the club days and Dave era Halen.
Did you guys know that old school Van Halen has not been covered in Guitar World for over 10 years!!!! Whenever VH has been in it over the last decade, all Eddie talks about is either Van Hagar, Van Cherone, his personal issues etc..
Classic VH has not even been mentioned in GW for over a decade! Having recently done classic issues of Sabbath, Led Zep, Doors and even Motley Crue over the last couple years, GW mag knows the time has come to give VH its due and teach this young generation of teeny boppers out now the whole VH story. They want to put a pic of clsssic VH on the cover and do the full monty on these guys. They might even contact the dudes at The Inside for pics!
