Been watching a lot of TV lately especially VH1 and some MTV (when it doesn't suck!) which is very rare. Anyway It came to me that some of the shows that remembered like the 80's or the behind the music's always mention VH for like 20 seconds and then they go an kiss Guns n Roses ass or mention that the best album of the 80's was Pyromania or that the rebirth of rock was created when Metallica was formed... I mean WTF! is wrong with this picture, I mean give credit were credit is do. If it wasn't for VH none of those losers wannabe lead guitarrist would even know how to act onstage, not to maention every single band from like 81 till now owes some respect or props to VH. They rip them of for years and now it seems that they never even existed. I don't now but to me is lack of respect to the band.
I know the fact that the history of the band is somewhat cloudy at best, but that doesn't give them(producers and execs of VH1 and MTV) the opportunity to pass them over like yesterday news.Do you think we migth still have to wait anyway?

Achievements:
I'm not sure that Guns n' Roses would have been any different had Van Halen never existed. Slash and Izzy were influenced by The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin, bands like that that pre-dated Van Halen. And I don't think Axl was really influenced by VH at all either.

anyone remember the interview that some guitar mag did with Eddie and Slash at the same time? I still have it somewhere- this thread totally brought back those memories... awesome interview.
anyway, Slash said that when GnR was first getting started, everyone wanted to sound like Van-Halen - and he wanted to do something different

Show me a band from the 80's that didn't think Van Halen were Gods, and I'll show you a band of liars.
Every time I've heard VH mentioned from one of the 'hair-bands' they have always expressed their admiration for Eddie and Roth, hell, all of them.
Sebastian Bach still thinks VH is the shiznit, he says it every chance he gets!!!!
But it is true that VH1 and MTV give Van Halen zero credit, and that pisses me off when they put Nirvana, G n'R above our boys, thats bullshit.........may the termites from a thousand Douglas fir trees infest their wooden dentures.

Every eighties hard rock band that I can think of was influenced and admires Van Halen.Right Now you're reading my post!

They may have been "influenced", but it didn't do most of them any good. Most hair bands tried to be Dave & Eddie in looks, but fell far short in sound, with rare exceptions like Vito Bratta who seemed to have Eddie's look and sound down pretty well (and we all know what his bass player is doing now).
Oddly enough, the 2 best bands of the late 80's were groups that looked and sounded nothing like Van Halen, Living Colour and GnR. Though there's little doubt that VH was an influence on either band. They just did their own thing, rather than being clones.
Just like any band that was ever worth a shit.Eat Us And Smile
Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

On VH1 last night they had that "100 Greatest Hard Rock Bands of All Time" special on & time I tuned in they were at #7. Well who would it be but none other than =VH=. I thought cool, they are in a respectable spot in the top ten. Then they show #6 as Nirvana.
Good thing I hadn't been drinking because I woulda probly shot the TV. It just made no sense. I mean, who are these people that decided this? I was blind with rage until about #2 which I think was Sabbath #1 was Zep. I'm surprised it wasn't Limp Dickzit or Stinkin Park. Re-friggin-diculous I say. Sons 'o bitches couldn't find their ass with both hands if they had to. Pretty depressing, huh? I just wanted to vent & this topic seemed like a good place to do it.

Right on, I Scream Man. I was really pissed off too when I saw that they ranked fucking Nirvana higher than VH.
Complete bullshit. VH should have at least been in the top 4 or 5.

I can maybe see Zep or Sabbath in those spots over Van Halen, INNOVATORS right? But 'flash in the pan' acts just don't cut it for me. L-O-N-G-E-V-I-T-Y, innovation.

I think MTV Inc (parent company of VH-1) is still pissed about 1996 (like the rest of us, actually). As a result, they can never give VH full credit for what they accomplished between 1978 and 1984. (Let's face it, calling Van Hagar a hard rock band would be a gross inaccuracy)
I would have ranked Hendrix #1, Zeppelin #2, Van HALEN #3, Sabbath #4, Ac/Dc #5 and Nirvana #6.Eat Us And Smile
