I know this has probably been talked about before here, but has anybody heard this tribute cd? TONS of talent on it like Malmsteen (light up the sky) and Lynch (panama). Is it any good? I saw it today, and believe it or not, I actually passed it up until I got some feedback on it from you fine folks.

Go back to whence you came and BUY IT!!!
Out of all the VH tribute discs, this is by far THE best. Though all the artists are formerly of 80's "hair bands", they still do every song justice...except Stephen Pearcy of Ratt. He should be shot, twice, for what he did to "Runnin' With The Devil".
Go!! NOW!!!!!"Are you the guy with the Van Halen tickets?"<br /><br />"I might be....."

I have this. It's definately worth picking up. This CD is probably the closest thing you'll get to a new Van Halen record at the moment...
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

seen,
I can recommend this one to you, bro! It's actually not too bad IF you don't expect too much from it AND the 80's dudes that play on it.
LUTS is one of the tunes that seals it for me. Sure, Malmsteen is an egotistical prick and Pinnick's voice takes a tiny bit getting used to, but hearing it all come together, including bad boy Billy Sheehan's bass, is one incredible song!
That song, along with Dweezil's work on Unchained is just incredible! It really sounds a lot like Ed.
There are a few other goodies on there, but I'll tell you up front...
Listen to Pretty Woman by Nelson for at least 25 seconds, then skip over it, never to listen again. There was really NO reason whatsoever to have that song by THAT band on this disc.
It's worth the $12.99 at Best Buy if you can snag it. Go for it, dude."Once the final BAN has been completed I will ban myself." -OLO, March 21, 2002
"The price of the steak sandwich over there is ridiculous!!" -Glenn, March 3, 2003

I have most of the VH tribute discs - Little Giutars is definitely NOT the best - all the songs are just banged out TRYING to copy the originals, whats the point????? - there are some excellent players on it (Breg Bissonette, Billy Sheehan) but it's just DUMB IMO.
The best disc I have is EveryBody Wants Some - it has Boston bands doing the VH classics (and a van hagar number too, LOL) - it's great though, all the songs are done in a completely different style to the original, you get a lounge version of EBWS, an acoustic Jump, Eruption on church organ (played by a reverand!!!!) Dance the Night Away in a Country crooner style, Feel Your Love Tonight in a Shangri-La's - type thing.
- the CD is a BLAST!!!!!! very interesting, shows how these great songs hold up when performed in a totally new musical style. Little Guitars is fuckin BORING in comparison.
Even if you do but LG, I hope you eventually check out EBWS."So who died and made YOU David Lee Roth???"

Yeah the "Everybody Wants Some" tribute album is pretty good too. I love the version of Jump by Mary Lou Lord and Romeo Delight by Sam Black Church. This album is worth picking up for some different interpretations of classic VH tunes, however if your a purist then "Little Guitars" is the one to get...

I have that too... it's a fun album. I dig it. I really like ALL tribute discs, though. I even like Eruption...you know, the disco dance remixes of old VH tunes with Ralph Saenz screaming along over the top. It's great.

The thing about the Little Guitars album is that it will REALLY make you realize how great VH was. The versions are done faithfully, but there's just something missing. That something is of course the one in a million chemistry present in the real VH.
And I'd definitely agree that the Everybody Wants Some tribute is the best one to get. Very cool to hear all the VH songs warped into different styles.
