I believe it is because the powers that be did not have confidence in DLR's vocal delivery live.
Perhaps it takes a little hindsight to see the absolute charm of "I forgot the fucking words!".
Cheers!

Achievements:
It's been said that Eddie didn't think they came off very well because of Dave's scatting alot of the words. Don't know if that's true, could just be words said in hindsight. Just the other day I was watching the video of Unchained in Oakland 81. Dave was nailing the lyrics that day, and even when he wasn't, it was something to see and hear. It never bothers me when Dave screws around with the words (or flat out forgets them); if I wanted to listen to the song exactly perfect, I'd throw on the studio album.

One of the true examples of the way Van Halen worked as a band is when Dave would forget to start a verse or screw up the lyrics in some way, the band would compensate beautifully by throwing in an extra bar, without missing a beat!

Well I own a bunch of Live DLR Van Halen boots and while it is true there are some performances where Dave spends too much time "scat talking" there are just as many others where he nails the delivery beautifully!
I wish there was an official live album with DLR
