Default START ME UP!!--the Rolling Stones thread

So I hear they're in the studio, and Don Was says they hope to have the album out by summer. Hell yeah!

In my opinion, if the whole album is as good as the four new songs off Forty Licks, it will be their best album since....shit, Tattoo You!

The new songs on 40 Licks sucked. In no way do they come close to rivaling anything off Tattoo You. Just my opinion, of course.

But kudos to you for starting a well-placed and long overdue thread to one of the greatest rock and roll bands in history.

Geez Jan what took you so long

Personally,I enjoyed those 4 new songs off 40 Licks. And I hope their new album has that Liqoured up-Blues Sound that they've perfected.Nevermind the trying to dabble with today's sound.
    Rest in Peace, Ed.

It's all about this fucking song.....

    Oh, a storm is threatíning
    My very life today
If I donít get some shelter
Oh yeah, Iím gonna fade away

War, children, itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away
War, children, itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away

Ooh, see the fire is sweepiní
    Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
    Mad bull lost itís way

War, children, itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away
War, children, itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away

    Rape, murder!
    Itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away

    Rape, murder!
    Itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away

    Rape, murder!
    Itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away

    The floods is threatíning
    My very life today
    Gimme, gimme shelter
    Or Iím gonna fade away

War, children, itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away
    Itís just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, itís just a kiss away
    Itís just a kiss away
    Itís just a kiss away
    Itís just a kiss away
    Itís just a kiss away
    Kiss away, kiss away

The new stuff kicks the ass of anything they've done SINCE Tattoo You, except maybe Voodoo Lounge, which I really like.

Unfortunately, that isn't saying a lot. I wish the Stones would revisit their old sound.

    Hmm, that sounds familiar.

I haven't heard the new 40 Licks songs, but about the only post Tattoo You songs I like are Undercover of the Night, One Hit to the Body, Love is Strong and it's B-side Jump on Top of Me and maybe Mixed Emotions. Other than those, I'm out. I have all the studio albums from Beggar's thru Tattoo You plus a few Best of's - that's good enough for me.

I wasn't a big fan of the new song off of 40. I did like "Don't Stop". I was a real big fan of Voodoo Lounge though. I have seen the Stones twice and I have to say they put on a hell of a show. I saw them in N.O. from the 20th row-awesome!! They played for 3 hours non-stop.

I can't wait to see them. Hopefully I get the opportunity. If I do, I'll get to scratch one thing off on my List of Things to do Before my Most Untimely Demise. (I really do have one).

'Mixed Emotions' is a song any songwriter wishes he would have written...

I liked the Licks tunes, but I thought their HBO special last year sucked much testicle. Keith's turn on the vox was just embarassing...

Theirs is a catalog you just can't miss with...

Yeah.....I liked the shows, it was fuckin cool when Keith did "Thru and Thru." That's his best lead vocal, in my opinion.
