Celebrity boxing-Sammy offered $35,000 to fight Ed

Sammy said on the interview he was offered $35,000 to fight either Dave or Ed for that celebrity boxing show. He said it was a insult and that he would't want to lower himself to that level or look as bad as Vanilla Ice, One thing that caught my attention was when they brought up Ed, Sam said it wouldn't be fair to Ed anyway as he has been sick. Did anyone else catch that illness reference?

i think myself, hain, and maybe glenn are the only people here that i know of who feel ed's health is a holdup in all of this, but i's good to be wrong

I do think that Edward is in poor health. No facts to back that up, just seeing those Christmas pictures which were many months after Valerie stated that Eddie was totally fine. A lot of people thought Ed looked good in those photos, I did not. Throw in my natural instinct towards pessimism and that's my side of that.

BUT, I don't necessarily think that his health is holding up a reunion. I just don't think that Edward and Dave are ever going to get themselves on the same musical/personal page again. Which makes EVH's health, as it pretains to a reunion, a moot point.

Maybe, but I doubt it. Sammy was a boxer, and I know he still trains at home. I think Dave is more of a kicker than a puncher. Dave wouldn't be able to kick in it obviously, and Sammy is short and stocky and he looks like he could throw hard shots.

If it was a no holds barred fight like UFC. I would probably pick Dave though, because trained in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, as well as Karate, Kung Fu and he said in his book that he did some Kickboxing. He's got a lot more techniques to use.

I think there are more people than that.

It is very confusing though, Sammy said in an interview a few months ago that he has known about Ed's Cancer for a long time and he's fine.

I remember that. Since Sam said in the most recent interview that Ed's 'not well', it makes you wonder who's told him a different story.

My guess would be Mike. But, then again, who knows the last time Mike saw Ed... I don't think Mike's as close to Ed or Al as we'd all like to believe. Hence, his working with Sam.

I'm glad Sammy wouldn't stoop to the level of Todd Bridges and Tonya Harding. If Sammy fought Dave, I think it would come down to conditioning. Yes, Sammy has boxed before but Dave LOOKS like he is better shape. Plus, DLR does have a SLIGHT advantage in age.

sammy has always looked a puny little porker , while dave has always been physically superb..

his mental state.. well that's another story..

as long as dave was vaguely coherent & it was a 'no holds barred' punch-up , dave would quite litteraly wipe the floor with sammy..

boxing is ok , but martial arts is on another planet..

it's always amused me that ed honestly thought he could take on dave - 'he better be wearin' a cup'.. lol - ...& ed better be wearin' a suit of fuckin' armor..

Well, when Freddie Mercury was sick with HIV, Queen apparently brushed off any reports that he was "seriously ill" or that his life was in danger.

No one knew what he had, only that he looked sick.

I'm not sure I believe anyone who comments on Ed's health (even Valerie) who say he is okay but may not be.

Ed's health is TOTALLY an issue.
I can't understand why so many people forgot about that. He has been fighting cancer, not the friggin' flu.
Here's the thing: Cancer really gives you a serious reality check. You realize you may not have enough time in this life to do everything you want. Eddie has been on top of the world for a long time. He has given the world a catalog of amazing music and changed the way people play guitar, as well as the guitar business itself.
What he hasn'tdone is seen his son grow up. He only has ONE shot at that. So, it's pretty plain to me why he's been in a super-private mode the past few years. To be honest, I don't think the music business, or all the Van Halen fans in the world mean jack-shit compared to spending time with his wife and son - and we shouldn't.

Would I like VH to have a more open and honest relationship with us? ABSOLUTELY. But, if Eddie is as sick as I think, then anyone with a brain and a heart has to understand that rock and roll music about bangin' chicks and drinkin' bear really is a load of bullshit in comparison. This is one of the reasons why Eddie outgrew Dave's ego in the 80s.

I will continue to think, until proven otherwise, that Ed is not in good health. It may not of been the only holdup for reunions with Sam/Dave or now my dream show a 3 hour show combo tour (which seems far more likely now than ever). Celebrities just don't vanish very often without reason. I don't know much about cancer but I do know that people get better than worse than better and then in many cases die very fast. Like everyone else I hope that Ed has got this beat and that it was never a big deal. The pics from the golf outing looked horrible, he had aged 10 years since the last pics I had seen. He looked a little better later in the year but not healthy. I think the real sign that he isn't well is that Mikey has now moved on to other projects. This seems pretty clear to me that Mike doesn't think Ed will be ready to tour anytime in the next 12-16 months (If Planet Us is to make a CD and tour).

I hope I'm wrong but only Ed can put the rumors to rest ,not by having Val make a comment in a sunday newspaper insert but by going out in public and starting to work, and he refuses to do so.

by the way, one thing i found COMPLETELY sickening, was the pics of ed SMOKING at the golf outing.

that's a sign of:
A) he's too far gone and there's no hope
B) he's a complete fucking idiot.
C) he's just a hopless addict
