I was laying around today listening to Respect the Wind and I came to the conclusion that this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have EVER heard. Especially the ending. There is alot of emotion and energy in this song, and Ed and Al do a great job of expressing it through their respective instruments. Especially eddie.

I must say that I was surprised to learn that Alex played the piano on this. Just goes to show that he has a ton of musical talent that often gets overshadowed by his little brother. It makes me think that it would have been cool for Alex to play the piano part of Neworld on the III album instead of Mike Post.

Anyway, I kinda got off the topic. I totally agree that Respect the Wind is an amazing song by the Van Halen brothers. I'll bet it's one of there favorites too, seeing as they are so rooted in music and have such a strong family bond.

Hell yeah, Respect The Wind is an incredible piece of music from Ed and Al. You can really "hear" the emotion in it. I especially love the long version of it, as the ending credits of the movie roll. So cool ...

Gotta love this instrumental. Just shows how Eddie and Al can write better instrumental songs with more feeling then guys who specialze in instrumentals like Satriani, Vai, and so on.

Man, I thought I was the only person in the world who dug that tune. Absolutely a wonderful instrumental.

It is awesome. I was in Sears a couple of months ago my wife was looking for something and i went to electronics and they were playing Twister on some bad ass set up with surround sound big screen, everything. I sat that for 30 minutes waiting for the credits to come on.
I know I heard one time it was nominated for a grammy but never heard the outcome. Does anyone else know?????

Hey RYNO: It was nominated for best rock instrumental, but lost. Can't remember off the top of my head who beat it out. Whoever it was, it was obviously a conspiracy.

Eddie's guitar sounded the COOLEST in '95 and '96.

"Respect The Wind" is absolutely beautiful! I've always wanted to learn it!

    i agree with synth.
eddies wolfgang sounded fucking great on respect the wind and humans being. i never really liked the sound of it on vh3 too much. and on the 3 tour. you know what i noticed on the 3 tour? that when eddie solod it always sounded like he was using a wah pedal even though he wasnt near it. that because he had the pedal turned on all the time. it kinda ruined the sound but it was still cool.

oh! and respect the wind is totally ass kicking amazing!!!!

Big Bubba, I never knew that about Eddie's guitar on the 3 tour. Thanks for the info.

Can I just say that Alex is the friggin' man. His keyboard playing is as warm as Eddie's tone.

And Wolfie3 - Very funny, but there's no conspiracy.

I'm pretty sure the song that beat "Respect The Wind" for the Grammy was "SRV Shuffle." It was an all-star jam in tribute to the late, great, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I'm a HUGE SRV fan so, although I would rather have had the boys win the Grammy, I've got no problem with the brothers VH losing to something dedicated to SRV's memory.

    Damn... Think I'm gonna'

Yep, you're right, Down. I knew I'd remember who it was when I heard it. And I GUESS it's alright that they lost to an SRV tribute.
