not one DJ that interviewed Dave asked him in detail about the 3 new tunes he did with Eddie and the boys last year? If there are any DJ's here, let me ask if it is normal for a guy like Dave to do an interview to promote a show to tell the radio station there are certain questions that can not be asked. To me, at least, these 3 songs are the biggest thing VH/DLR related to happen in the last 2-3 years as far as the music, and not one DJ, Pierre or any of them, asked in detail about these songs. I know DJ's aren't held in the highest regard around here, but surely the high profile ones, who also rate as hard core fans, would have known about those 3 songs and wanted to ask Dave about them. Questions like, what earlier VH tunes were they like, what were the titles, were they fast or slow? Shit like that. Just thinking out loud. If there was as I have thought, some type of gag order in place, maybe Dave couldn't talk about those songs at all.
John 3:16, Can You Dig It?
People, the 6 wings of the Mighty Van Halen will fly again! Can You Dig It?
You gotta give more than you take! Can You Dig it?
And underneath the arch, it turned into a march,
and there He found a spark to set this fucker off!
Set it off, set it off now children, set if off!
We are down the road! I Can Dig It! Can You?

That's an interesting question. Probably part of the reason is that Dave seems to lead the interviews that he does. I don't know about everyone else, but I'd really like to see Dave tone down the act and open up a little bit. Some of my favorite parts of his book are the brief moments when he makes personal comments that you can tell are outside of the 'Diamond' Dave character that he plays.
I think Dave feels pressured to be the 'Diamond' character, so he doesn't even let interviewers get the chance to draw him out, for fear that a more serious side will negatively affect his chosen image. Which I think is garbage, I think it could only help to see him as a more rounded personality, since he seems to be a pretty rounded person.
But Dave's take charge interview style is probably a dream to dj's who have had to interview difficult subjects in the past. If you've interviewed some snotty rocker who only wants to give one word answers, Dave would be a joy after that. And it's probably easier for interviewers to cheat and not do their homework since they know with Dave they can ask a vague question, and in return receive a 10 minute answer.

I think it's because Eddie has done a good job of avoiding the media and acting like a total recluse the past couple of years. I'm sure journalists have wanted to ask him about the songs, but Eddie probably hasn't been willing to do such an interview.

Interesting point...
However, in defense of the DJ's, I'm sure that "interviewing" Diamond Dave is probably alot easier said than done. It's more like: Turn on the mic and listen to him ramble. Chuckle a few times and thank him for comin' by.
Inasmuch, I'm sure any attempt to corner him on specifics would have been met with something like: "Yeah, you know. I raised the flag and the boys wouldn't salute. I switched on the turbo chargers and they complained about the g's. Can I mambo dogfish to the banana patch when the tres hermanos can't hear the trombone? Hey, who's the hot blonde in the belly tee?"

Sorry, I misread and thought the question was why Eddie hasn't been interviewed.
As far as Dave being interviewed, Pierre Robert of WMMR interviewed him back in November (interview available at the DLR Army), and asked about the 3 songs. Dave just reiterated what he said on his website last April, which was that they were spectacular songs, but nothing more.

Seems to me , the only person who can get Dave to open up a little is/was Howard Stern.
Too bad we cant get Stern to bring him in for some questioning.
It is possible too, that Dave requested that there be no specific questions asked regarding the songs, or the relation with VH. He was asked by some DJ's, but not "drilled" after the vague, "Diamond Dave" type answers.

Maybe Dave thinks that there is still a chance of a reunion and he doesn't want to let on anymore then he needs to. At this point, who knows what is going on with Dave or Van Halen.

I too, would love for Dave to answer questions seriously. But, you must admit the man is funny.
He is probably a DJ's easiest interview.
Here's a Dave quote which sums it all up.

Trying to interview Dave with YOUR set of questions is like trying to light a short fuse on a big firecracker.
You've got about 3 seconds to ask your initial question then prepare yourself for the BANG!!!
I felt fortuante enough to feel like I could follow him somewhat thru all his jibberish.
I remember even asking both he AND Sammy before we went on the air (back in '99) if either one didn't want "any particular questions" asked. Both of them said something to the extent of "fire away...it's all good".
However, this was before the Van Halen story and everything related to it turned into an episode of the X-Files."Once the final BAN has been completed I will ban myself." -OLO, March 21, 2002

Agree! I have always thought that Ed was so underrated as a rhythm guitarist.
