i was watching aerosmith behind the music, and joe perry made a good point he said "without the fans we would not be here".
also joey kramer said you can not take the fans for granted it's not right.
i thought that was real good and how they still think of the fans.
eddie and alex please remember us fans.

I think they've already forgotten us. Don't worry, it shows in fan opinions. They know what the deal is....they just aren't doing anything about it.
Van Halen without the original 4 is just not Van Halen.

At this point, whatever personal problems the VH bros. have, it is more important to them than interacting with their fan base. IMO !

Well, I think an occassional "hey we're still breathing" wouldn't hurt. When the health problems subside (hopefully) and they walk back out of that cave they've put themselves into, they'll find a lot of alienated fans. We view VH as part of our family in a lot of ways, and just want to know they are okay, like we would anyone in our family. They don't owe us, but they should respect us...as we do them.

It's been a lOOOOOOng time since we've heard anything about Van Halen the band. Why the silence? That's all I'd like to know. If it's over, it's over. What's so hard about saying "Thanks for supporting us for so many years, take care". A fourth singer at this point would be a commercial joke since they have been out of the picture for so long. As a diehard for 20+ years I've certainly put a decent amount of money in their pockets that a simple "goodbye" isn't too much to ask for now is it?

the silence has been way to long, but just like a few of you said a hello we are fine would be nice to hear.
i do not want to know everything that goes on in their lifes, but just the music part, they built that band and we supported them for years it would be great to hear that they are taking time to see what they want to do with the band, instead of leaving us in the dark about the best band in the world.

Well, like I said, it's a respect issue. They should RESPECT us for sticking with them. They don't owe us an occasional "we're okay", but it would be respectful to us.

I'm only a casual Aerosmith fan, but from I've seen, they are really good to their fans. Well, not musically. Musically they're screwing over the people who made them famous with the crap they've released lately, but they're cool to their fans in person. Same with Jani Lane from Warrant. He's a totally nice guy who hung out with the fans after a show once. It's pretty cool when they take the time to shake your hand and sign autographs.

I agree and I would add one more thing especially to Eddie. Don't take for granted that you can just pick a singer out of thin air and get lucky like you did with Hagar. What I am stating here and not to flame a Roth/Hagar match, is that if they go with a 4th singer take your time and use your head and what you should have learned with the Cherone situation. I'd rather wait an extra year or 2 for the right guy, than go with a wrong fit again. Because I do think it will be nastalgia time if they do go with a 4th singer and it doesn't work out.

And this is what Sammy does all the time. The man is amazingly close to his fanbase. It IS pretty cool.

Another artist that seems close to the fans is Beck...the sample-based pop guy, you know, "Devil's Haircut" etc. I'm not a big fan myself, but I was working as a stagehand for a Beck show here in Chicago recently, and and as we were striking the stage after the show, some kid caught my attention and pointed to some scrap of paper up on stage and said, "Can you make sure this gets to Beck?" I was like, "Yeah" and stuck it in my pocket, thinking, whatever, dude! But then, about 20 minutes after the lights came up, Beck wandered out onstage, then into the house and for the few fans still hanging around, he shook hands and took pictures with them, which was very cool to see. They weren't friends of his or anyone special, just some dedicated Beck fans. So I walked over and handed him the paper, which was a little pencil drawing of Beck that the guy had done, and I said (rather embarrassed and apologetically) "Um...someone tossed this up on stage and wanted you to have it." Beck goes, "Oh hey, thanks! I meant to hold on to that. Thanks." And he started showing it to the people around him. I haven't met too many stars, but this guy is one of the coolest, most down-to-earth.

I dunno.

For me it seemed like an eternity waiting on the F.U.C.K. album to come out. And there was no expectations of messages to the fans until it was done. That was before the internet exploded, and I think to a large degree Van Halen still operate in that mode. Mikey sees the potential of fan interaction a little more, and it shows.
