I wonder if they will fill the whole disc??

DLR tunes are usually 5min or less.

Maybe we will get some multimedia, MP3's of unreleased material on the disc would be cool!! BUT, I would prefer 74 rock'n VH minutes!!!!

Fill the disc guys, throw some unreleased or live stuff on the singles as well, the more the better. Let's open the flood gates!!

If they finish the album and it is 60 minutes long, I don't think it's a good idea to tack on another 14 minutes of unreleased stuff just for the sake of filling up a CD. Much as I've whined for the release of box set type stuff, that's not the way I want to see it released. If they are going to include extra material like that, and at this point I don't think that's a good idea, it has to be on a seperate CD. Obviously, I don't really think padding a 60 minute CD with extra material is necessary. An album has to follow the vision of the artist, and odds are that vision isn't going to come out to exactly 74 minutes.

Good point Glenn! Being caught up in the artistic moment, one does not worry about the quantity, but, rather the quality of time gone into the creation. Ergo, I say forget about trying to fill the CD up with stuff, rather I want to hear quality music...

I agree with you guys I want a quality CD,
but we always hear of these songs that don't make the album, and usually they are as good and in some cases better than what is on the album.

Just with the release of III, TWILY not put on the album, probably my favorite VH song with GC.

How many songs from the 25 song demo are of the quality that they should have been on VHI, VHII, etc.???? Who know how many awesome tunes Eddie has stashed away from studio session with DLR.

One thing is for sure Glen, I'm with you on the BOX set thought, Lots of VH to come.

I kinda got turned off of CD singles by Metallica. My brother in law is a huge Metallica fan, and has bought MANY Metallica singles since the late eighties. Anyway, they always have demos or live stuff on their singles, but they are also MUCH more expensive than singles by other artists. That always annoyed me and made me think they were greedy.

I'm all for VH putting extra stuff on their singles on two conditions.
    1. They be readily available, not a limited edition thing
    2. They keep the prices reasonable

Here in Canada, those Metallica singles are more expensive than regular albums, and that is just unnecessary in my opinion.

If any of the unreleased stuff was really good, could sammy or dave use it in their solo shows as their own? If so, why haven't they? I'm sure they know about most of the recordings VH has made over the years, why do they just let these songs sit on the shelf?

I guess that's a valid question, but look at it this way. If Dave (or Van Halen for that matter) plays a gig and suddenly breaks into Let's Get Rockin, 99% of the crowd will have absolutely no idea what song it is. We are the die hards, but how many of us are at each VH show?

Dave talked in his book about having many unused songs that will one day be released. I think he mentions it when discussing his Ice Cream Man project. I don't know if he meant that as including stuff from his VH days, or strictly from his solo career, but either way it would be wonderful to hear these things.

I dont see any point in filling out a cd to 74 minutes just for the sake of filling it up. If the cream of the music only makes it to 50 minutes, then thats fine, I would rather have 50 minutes of solid, worthwhile music than 70 minutes of 1/3 'filler'

Yeah, I remember when I was a kid an the Van Halen albums (and albums by other artists) were 35 to 45 minutes long and I wished they were longer, and then CD's came out and could hold 70+ minutes of music and artists started using that and you know what? I wish some of those albums were only 45 minutes long because there's too much lesser quality stuff on there! There have been some long albums that are good all the way through, but there are some, like recent Rolling Stones albums that could've been better using the less is more theory

    Glenn,

It's interesting you mentioned "Let's get Rockin" That song abosulutely rules!!

Until a few months ago I had never heard it. Never really been into bootlegs and unreleased stuff until recently. The opening riff/rythem is wicked! And then when Mikey and Ed come in with the harmony, and then Dave starts beltin it out, totally cool! Man, I sound like Farley, "You remember when . . . That was awesome!"

    Hehehe

Anyway, how that song never made it to an album I have no idea. Does anyone know whether this song was on the original demo tape given to WB? Also, does anyone know where I can get a CD w/ this on it?

    Thanks

Yes, Let's Get Rockin was on the 25 song Warner Brothers demo. I don't think it had been included on any of the previous demo work that the band had done.

There's a live version of Lets get Rock'n as well, if you have an EQ and bring up the mid range it sounds awesome, I almost like it better than the studio version.

Tuna, on which Boot is there a live version of let's get rockin? I love that song.. It would be cool if they just redid that song for the new VH release.
