So what do you guys think about Ralph Saenz from the Atomic Punks joining VH?
AC/DC did it and it's obviously a huge success. Judas Priest did (tried)it and it's obviously not as successful. Of course there's a major difference in that AC/DC's first singer died and Rob Halford is still around and singing great (I just saw him at the HOB on Anaheim last week).
At this point, who cares? VH has no relevance in today's music so why not get a guy who has a great voice, great look and can absolutely sing DLR perfectly if not better than the original (I've never heard him sing Sammy but I bet he can). Make an album, go on tour, have some fun and make some money.
To think VH can reassemble and take the top spot as they did back in 1984 is silly. I know Aerosmith did it and the Stones are still bigger than ever but I just don't see it with VH because unfortunately, and this hurts me to say, Roth can no longer deliver
I'm willing to guarantee (one whole $1 US currency to everyone on this list) that a new VH album with Ralph will out sell VHIII and everyone on this list will say...wholly shit, this sounds great!
I say VH (Eddie) should get off their (his) dumb ass and either get Dave, Sam, or Ralph in the band, otherwise I'm afraid we'll all be here three to five years later saying, "do you think VH is going to get back together? Who do you think going to be in the band...Vince Neil? David Coverdale? Patty Smyth? That dude from Poison?"...pathetic!

I this point I don't care who sings on a VH album...just as long as they put something out.
You're right; Ralph can sing the Dave stuff and do the Dave schtick better than Dave can nowadays.Scott Roberts

I have not yet seen the Atomic Punks live, but I have seen Ralph in his other band Metal Shop, and he is incredible. Very talented, very sexy, very Dave. I would love to see this happen.

I have a crazy thought, instead of trying someone who'll emulate Dave or Sammy, why not get Dave or Sammy? What a concept.

With all due respect to the very talented Atomic Punks, they are pretty much just a novelty act. The Atomic Punks are to Van Halen what all Elvis impersonators are to Elvis- merely an imitation of the real thing.
I understand your reasoning, but in my opinion bringing Ralph in isn't the answer. Getting Dave, Sammy, or someone fresh would be much more advantageous.

Hi! I am the new guy, but I have been watching! I know that you like to slam each other, but this thread made me join!
Ralph has an awesome voice. Why does he have to come in as Dave? Can't he be the new guy on his own merits? Shave his head if you have to! He can do an album of his own tunes and still do the existing catalog! I would pick him over a Gary reunion anytime !

Look, I understand that I'm in the minority on this, but I see no good in re-hashing the old stuff at all!I love VH for the growth they've shown on every record. All though I've not always understood the direction they've gone, I've ALWAYS given them the benefit of the dought.Every new record has had something NEW to offer, good or bad, they've tried to expand on their genious.Hiring a singer because they sound like Roth or Hagar is a slap in the face to the fans!Musically I think this band has alot of kick-ass NEW music left in it!If I were one of the greatest MUSICIANS on the planet, I would have no interest in re-making "Fair Warning" or "5150" over and over again! Truth is, no matter what they decide to do,I will still empty my bank account every time they come to my town.To me,
Eddie is Eddie, jumping ship because of what some consider a sub-par record is just not an option,I'm in it for the long haul!Lode's Facebook

I would take Vince Gill at this point!
Ralph would atleast show Eddie some respect, and if he can deliver the notes.....in the words of Adam Sandler....JUST DO IT!!!!!!!
By the way Brian Johnson was not in an AC/DC cover band. He had performed Whole Lotta Rosie live but that was with his band Geordie.
Bon Scott's old band Fraternity actually opened for Geordie and Bon had told Angus and Malcolm that he was the best singer he ever watched (jumping around, screaming his ass off.....turned out Brian had Appendacitist at the time)
So when he died some kid in Chicago reminded the band of this and they gave him a try out.
Halford may be singing better now than he did in Priest......but ripper is cool too.
I say Hire Alanis Morrisette......that would be cool.
Or Mellisa Etherage, she has great pipes (saw her do a duet with Brian Johnson once of You shook Me all night long)
She definetly wouldn't have a problem singing Beuitiful girls!

Not being a Sammy fan or anything, but I think Dave is done, and I love Dave's half of VH possibly better than the Sammy stuff. But he is done. He doesn't know how to get out of the eighties. And it really has nothing to do with the whole going bald thing, he's in great shape. But he can't sing anywhere close to what he used to. I think he would have a shot if he would use the changes in his voice over the years to his advantage, i.e., sing in a lower octave. But I think Dave is gonna try to hit the high note and he's gonna make everybody cringe trying it. Plus he's hell to deal with. Sammy can still sing very well and he's probably easier to deal with than Dave. VH will probably never see the success they saw 10-15 years ago, but they can still put out some kickass music for their diehard fans. But I really don't care who it is at this point, I just want to hear that awesome guitar sound come firing out of my speakers again. Ed is this band, he could put Al Gore in front of the mic and I'd buy it. On the other hand, I realize that the majority of people would rather hear Dave come back than Sammy or anyone else. The problem with that is that these people think that the Dave they would be getting is the same one that left in '84, and that just ain't true folks. Sammy may have put on a pound or 2 in the last few years, but he can still sing just as good as always. As far as getting someone else, I think that unless its someone that is established elsewhere and the fans love, they won't buy it. Sammy does have a good following and a lot of people that want to see him back with VH. Maybe not as many as Dave, but still plenty. In conclusion, I'd be happy with anyone, but I think Sam would be best for the future (if there is one) for VH.

I have a great concept... why not hire a singer from a tribute band, make a album, go on tour and make a movie about it... damn it.. my idea has been taken already... it's already a movie called "Rockstar". That would definitely be the end of VH(IMO)

Their are a ton of capable vocalists that could come in and sound great with Van Halen but the question remains whether the remaining members particularly Ed have the drive to do anything. Yes most of us want either Dave or Sam at the mic but I'd settle for a solid 4th vocalist and a kick ass album.

This is motherfuckin Van Halen people. What may have worked out for Judas priest, which was a 1 in a billion shot, may not work for anyone else. In fact it could work against VH and they would be labeled as trying to be like Priest. Besides Priest isnt exactly dominating the charts and blazing a path with their new singer, even though Ripper is good.
Van Halen has absolutely nothing to prove at this point. They have done it all and then some. Their place in history secure. I see no need for them to try to relive the good ole days again. You just cant replicate that. The one thing I always respected about VH is that when they made a singer change is they also made a sound change and went off in a new direction into new territory. Plus the new singer would be the complete opposite of the previous and have his own personality and style.
Getting some guy who is a Roth impersonator, regardless of how good he is, is an insult and would belittle everything. Imagine Page getting some guy from a Led Zep cover band and then touring under the name Led Zeppelin? Even having the guy mimic and basically imitate Plant. It would be atrocious and insulting.
I am not sexist but hiring a woman for Van Halen would also be absolutely insane, absurd and laughable. No way, ever, should this happen. This is VAN FUCKING HALEN people. Remember that. Would you tell The Who or Led Zep or Sabbath to hire Alanis Morrisette or some other chick?
Didnt think so.
It amazes me how casually some people treat this. Some of you are dead serious! Thats insane.
NO Roth or Sammy impersonators and no damn chicks.(unless they are backstage!) I dont care if the mighty Janis Joplin reincarnated tomorrow, NO, sorry, cant do it, ok?
Look at Metallica going on tour this summer with Limp Disktik! That actually makes me happy VH is done!!
I'd throw myself off a mountain if VH ever toured with suck ass bands like that or resorted to using many song doctors like Aerosmith does.

I am thinking of checking out the punks this weekend in san diego. I heard their clips of the mark and brian interview and I shitted my pants. They sound phucking awsome. From what I heard, I'd have to agree with howard stern, they do van halen better than van halen.
