...for another whole year if I have to. I don't want to, but I will. But in the meantime I'll settle for what I already have. I'll pop in some old cd's and listen. Kick back in my easy chair with an ice cold beer and smile as my stereo pumps the eerie, ungodly squeals of Eddie's guitar on "Intruder" through my speakers...get up and jump around and air guitar like an idiot when the bone crunching sound of "Panama" kicks it into high gear...bob my head and sing at the top of my lungs to the unapologetic pop sound of "Can't Stop Loving You". Because this is the music I love. This is the Almighty Van Halen.
In the grand scope of things, I know, it's not that big of a deal. It is, after all, only rock n' roll. It's not more important than life itself. But just the same, music is an important PART of life. It compells emotion, fuels thought and debate, and inspires youth. For me, Van Halen's music has done that more than any other.
I can remember many a summer weekend, putting the top down and crusing down to the shore blasting "Summer Nights" so loud it made old people cringe. I remember the first time I made out with a girl, when I was barely 13 years old and at one of my first "cool" parties, with "Little Dreamer" playing in the background. I can remember being terribly depressed after the death of a family member and listening to "Feelin'", the raw emotion of that song making me feel just a little bit better. There are so many memories I have, good and bad, and it seems that there was always a VH song that went with the situation. Their music is the soundtrack of a life, and a great life at that.
You can have your Rolling Stones, you can have your Aerosmiths, you can have your AC-DC's...all good bands, don't get me wrong. But I'll take Van Halen over any of them any day of the week. For me, no one's music has stood the test of time better. It has always been there, and will continue to be there, regardless of their future work, reguardless of how many lead singers they go through, until the end of time (or, at least until the end of MY time).
Some may say I am being a sentimental weenie, and maybe I am. Like I said, it's only rock n' roll. But there are a lot of bands out there, putting out a lot of music, and Van Halen's is the only music that has been able to touch my life in this way. I believe that says something. Maybe a small something, but there it is nonetheless.
So, my friends, I will wait. Not always happily...not always with the utmost patience...but I will wait. As long as Eddie and the boys need me to wait. There music has always been there for me, so now I'll be here, waiting for it. And in the meantime...I'll just rock on with what I got, baby!
I just felt compelled to say a little something. I don't know why. Sorry if this is a waste of space.
Rock on!

In the meantime come October you could be like me and listen to Ten13 and try very very hard to pretend that's VH and not the Wabos playing in the background.
Well hell, I own every VH and DLR album and a chunk of the Sammy ones, I need SOMETHING new to hold me over.
