A minor one, really: Has anyone seen the current movie with Jack Nicholson, "About Schmidt"? It's pretty downbeat, I enjoyed Jack's acting but it's sorta critical of the American way of life in the heartland, if you've seen it I think you'll know what I mean. Anyway, one of the characters is a 30ish waterbed salesman in Colorado, a character with the worst mullet of all time (bald in front) who's depicted as a flake and a moron. He still lives at home and Jack/Schmidt does not want his daughter to marry this guy. Jack's staying at their house before the wedding and one scene shows the VH2 poster this loser has in his room. I was like, no big deal, but at the same time that's not really the impression you want to see VH getting in a major film. Some might say any attention is good attention, I don't know, I was just like, I as a major VH fan don't resemble this guy in the least, so I didn't appreciate the slam. Anyone see the film?

    Cool
EVH: Definitely. Playing guitar was my sanctuary. It was the one place I could go to if I got fucked around by a girlfriend, or anyone else, for that matter. It still is. If there’s something I can’t deal with, I can just spend hours playing. It’s a God-given gift – I certainly don’t know where the ideas come from. They’re obviously given to you, and you have to keep your fingers moving and your mind quiet. I try my best to not think about thinking, so I can just let it flow. Because when I start thinking, forget it.
So....why he isn't playing guitar ? ? ?

I've seen them all the place today.

first was at 7Eleven on a milk carton.

Then I saw them on the MOST WANTED board at the post office.

and lastly I saw them on the cover of a cd titled Van Halen 3 only to have the contents inside the case not be Van Halen at all. It was a pretty good cd, but it certainly wasn't Van Halen.

    Pretty Cool...
    VHWalkathon - Project 316

EVH: The music is first and foremost. That's the way it's always been and that's the way it will always be. Because without the music, what is there? Nothing. There's nothing without the music. You can't even cop an attitude without the music (laughs).

Take it with a grain of salt. 99% of the times I seen any VH reference in a film/TV show its been positive. Unfortunately some people still have the impression that anyone who is into hard rock/heavy metal is a mullet wearin moron! lol.

Wanna know what ticks me off? I caught that Sam & Dave show on VH-1 and they said something like "After 6 straight multi-platinum albums, sold out shows and an ocean of hairspray Dave left VH in 1985."...

    "an ocean of hairspray"?!?!?

Why do they keep wanting to paint VH as some hair farmin' band? Other than Dave occasionally 'teasin' his hair out a bit(something everyone from Axl to Freddy Mercury to Steven Tyler has done) VH was not in any way, shape or form a 'hair farmin' group. Just one look at pics of old school VH compared to pics of bands like The Crue, Poison or Cinderella could tell you that!

    I never get that one.

There was a positive reference to VH in the Spy Kids 2 movie. The kid plays a frankenstrat looking guitar. Black and white stripes
Better use it up before it gets old!

I saw the film, and really I think that by the end of the film "the loser" guy with the VHII poster in his bedroom is ultimately shown as someone who is kind and considerate, with a big heart, and is someone who loves Schmidt's daughter. I think what the film tries to do is show you "surface flaws" like his mullet, his naïveté, and that he certainly isn’t up with the times with his water bed and VHII poster. But, then subtly asks you to see through that to what kind of person he really is.
