It's been beaten here to death, so no one's opinion on here is going to change, but I push back a bit on the idea that The Last Jedi is universally disliked.

Certainly, there is no sure fire way to measure what people think, but we all know the Rotten Tomatoes score was bombarded with bots giving it a bad review and RT had to change how audiences review films because of that and then that spilling into Solo.

But the critics are at 90+%, the Cinemascore was an A, the ComScore/Screen Engine is 89%, and it's the 15th highest grossing film of all time, 44th when adjusted for inflation. So when adjusting for the price of a ticket, only 43 movies in history had people opening their wallets more.

So I think the hate is overblown.

I don't live and die by the Star Wars franchise and thought TLJ was just ok. On the other hand, a friend who is a hardcore Star Wars guy to the point he actually built a fully functioning, full scale R2D2 hates that movie and claims most diehards do as well.

I think it's just easy to get an indication of how critics feel. For me, there is just SO much TV to watch that, it's a helpful, quick guide to what a group thinks, viewers and critics. Wisdom of the crowd thing, even though I know it may not always be on the up and up.

We definitely don't need to rehash peoples' opinions on TLJ, I just make the argument that I think the evidence we have points to more people liking it than not liking it.

The whole sequel trilogy doesn't work for me, with Emperor coming back in the weirdest possible way.

Now that we have the Mandalorian, it looks like a bad joke.

I agree with him, bringing back the dead Emperor was lame and made no sense.

It says 9+ so I'm thinking about having, for the first time, the whole family together watching it, all 3 kids. Well, everyone except my wife, who never got star wars.

That's where I don't agree with a lot of ppl - they pretend that TFA and the last one were problem-free. They weren't. Kylo Ren was badly written. Snoke - terrible. The red haired dude, agitated - horrific. There's not one credible villain. Whereas the OT had Vader, the Emperor, Grand Moff Tarkin - fucking heavyweights of villainy right there! Even the prequels - far from perfect - had Darth Maul, Palpatine and Count Dooku. You can't do Star Wars without great villains.

the sequels in retrospect are bad. The Force Awakens was like the first show in 2004. You fail to see the issues but are just so glad the band is back togethr, you don't care Ed's new take on classics. After a week or so you kind of relalize you were just looking at it as a fan. When you rewatched its like seeing multiple 2004 shows like I did. All that being said, it was still VH. The Last Jedi is How Many Say I. Yeah there is art. There is risk involved. There is ego. Its just a big pile of iguana dung. Misses. Lacks nuances. Narrative heavy. Doesn't fit. Rise is like Sacred Sin. Just want to forget it even exists.

I like the prequels better than the sequels. At least there are some cool saber scenes in them. Much prefer them to sequels. Shit even "Sir who breathes heavy" can hit a Sith Lord.

When I met Ewan, he was scary fit. Same age as me. I think I hit the gym twice more the following week. Not an ounce of fat on that guy.
