And I am convinced that if Van Halen is to ever do any kind of cover on an album again, THIS should be the song. I dunno if Dave would have the range R. Plant, maybe sammy would, but i can definately see Van Halen doing this song and having it sound awsome!
WHOAOH! Hey you! Who said that? Baby how you been?

Personally, I never cared for the song. Working/teaching at a music store for 5 years did nothing to generate any newfound love for it either.
Not to mention, I would rather Van Halen never do another cover song in their lives. In fact, I would rather them retire for good than release a new cover tune every week for the rest of their lives.
But that's just me!Don't bark at me...<b>I</b> didn't name ya.

Sam might have hit the notes (in the old days), but we'll never know. That's probably a good thing.
I've always thought the song was overrated (and about 4 minutes too long LOL). But that's just me. Hey, some people don't like "Jump," you know?
IMO, the song that VH would nail of Zep's would be "When The Levee Breaks."
Shit, I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it...
Can't you just hear Al pounding away, and Dave wailing on the harmonica? I can.

"Did I not say, 'I think we should shoot him!' I did. Double rainbow on this end. I require a high five. Out."- track 5, on the delicate art of banning

There's an old cliche in Rock and Roll and it goes like this. NEVER do a cover of Stairway To Heaven.
That is about as dumb as attempting to do a new version of Beethoven's 5th. (in fact that was done with dire results: Saturday Night Fever soundtrack: A 5th of Beethoven.)"Sorry about the mess..."<br /><br />~Han Solo Episode IV

Achievements:
I think the secret to loving Stairway to Heaven is not to listen to it on the radio. I find that Led Zeppelin, maybe more than any other band of all time, are an album band. You have to listen to each album completely, you can't be pulling singles out and skipping around to songs. They made albums to be complete thoughts.
I love Stairway to Heaven, it's an epic. Led Zeppelin were great at epics; Stairway, Kashmir, In My Time of Dying, Achilles Last Stand etc.
If Van Halen were to do this song, I think it would have to be with Sammy on the vocals. I don't think Dave could do it justice like Sammy could.
DIF, good call on When the Levee Breaks.

How 'bout "Rock And Roll"? Imagine Al rippin' on that one!
BTW, a 5th of Beethoven rules!! Saturday Night Fever's the best soundtrack of all time. Even Dave thinks so."You gotta do me a favor and let these (people) have a good time, alright? A little bit of (vulgar term for breast) and their hands in the air ain't gonna hurt anybody" - Nikki Sixx
"Van Halen is 'Get the fuck off the sidewalk if ya don't like our drivin' kinda music!" - David Lee Roth
"We get to the hotel, there's people partyin' in the parking lot, people gettin' down in the elevator, wow! I swear to God I had this one chick, this chick was poundin' on my door, she was kickin' and screamin' at my door 'til about 6:30 this morning. Finally, I just said, 'Fuck it!' and let her out of my room!" - David Lee Roth

I agree that VH would probably do a great job covering "Stariway," but I don't think is should be covered by anyone at all. "Rock And Roll" is a good choice, though.

Yeah, I don’t know why some people use those stupid things. Unless you have some massive wrist trouble there’s no reason to be using that. Now they’re completely illegal on the PBA tour. I know a...
