Now i was not much of a fan of III, but i am listening to the song "More then Words" when he was with Extreme. I must say this guy does have the voice of an angel. and it leads me to believe more that he was pressured to sing the songs on III in ways he didnt usually sing, like screeching. this possibly could have led to him losing his vopice during the 98 tour. but he does have a beautiful voice, and is a good singer.

In terms of pure technical skill I'd have to say that I think he is the best singer of the three. Doesn't mean he is the right man for Van Halen though.

I was listening to Pornograffiti in the car today and More Than Words was the one song that I skipped. I never really listen to that song, though I love that album.

It's funny about Gary losing his voice in Boston on the III tour one night, and then doing the show the next night. If you've ever heard the tape, he was really struggling on night 1, I don't know how he was able to sing a full show only 24 hours later.

I admire Gary and think he's a really talented guy.

I came SO damn close to going to that Boston show. But, I had spent my money going to Matchbox-20/Soul Asylum/Semi-Sonic the week before. Damn parents wouldn't cough up the dough.

I worked in a record store when More Than Words was a hit...It was great to see soccer moms buy the record with that song and return it the next day after hearing 'Get The Funk Out'

Gary was and is a fantastic vocal talent and a helluva showman...

Sorry Glenn...I dig MTW...I like the eclectic feel it gives to a fine album...

I think Gary was the worst singer of the three in VH.

I agree with Edeble Ed that Gary was a lot better singer with Extreme. He sounds great with Extreme, but I was disapointed in his singing on a few songs on VH III.

Sammy Hagar is greatest singer that VH had IMO. He sounds as good live as he does in the studio.

Anyway I am moving this topic to Opinions.

I think a main issue is tuning. The guitars on Extreme records and Roth-era VH records is E flat. It suits Dave and Gary more. It is easier for them. VHIII didn't tune to E flat and I think it showed. Although when I played along with the Sydney show on my guitar I noticed they tuned to E flat live. Weird.
