Now a CVH reunion in 97 or 98, well, we will never know what kind of numbers they'd have done. They were not nearly as far removed from their European touring at that point and there likely would have been some pretty heavy promotion and publicity for such a tour. Regardless, I dont think there would be any doubt that they could've, and would've, played stadiums across North America.
A classic Van Halen reunion in 96í would have owned North America. Stadiums. Arenas. Sheds. Everything.

96í-98í would have been Van Halenís in North America.

    Would they have owned Europe?

Iím inclined to say yes, initially, but over 5 years?

Iím not sure. Weíll never know, unfortunately.

Take ADKOT, release in 1998 with Fairbairn/Ballard type production, and then tour behind it? Would have been huge.

Easily the biggest rock album and tour of the year, and one of the biggest tours ever.

I've told this story before, but I'll tell it again. Way back in the fall of 2015, we were driving my now 24 year old daughter up to UC Santa Barbara, where she was a Freshman. We stopped off at an In N Out in Brett's neck of the woods in the San Fernando Valley. After we ate, the first song that came on the radio was It's So Easy. My daughter immediately said, "This song sounds like the devil!"

I still don't understand why the whole world keeps saying Nirvana ended hair metal. They didn't, nor did Pearl Jam or grunge as a whole. They just played a major part in it, along with it being a 10-year-old (which was an unprecedented sub-genre run), stale, exhausted, incestuous genre that was going to dissipate anyways where MTV, radio, and record companies on top of that were dismissing them and, most of all, they were all breaking up anyways with or without Nevermind.

Everyone was just ready for something new. There wasn't the fan backlash like with Disco and the record burning get togethers, but it was simply too formulaic. Ten songs, two ballads, videos with women as arm candy, release the rocker first, then the ballad, same production, same chords, singer is a DLR impersonator, guitarist is a EVH impersonator, blah blah blah.

When the impersonators (Warrant) start getting impersonated (Danger Danger), it's time to move on.

the singers may have been going for DLR, but to me they came off sounding more like Jon Bon Jovi.

    Live debut of Hard Skool:

This was an almost 3 1/2 show which also included the tour debut of "Sorry."
