Gave the new album a listen yesterday. There were about 2-3 songs, after one listen, that I felt I'd be interested in revisiting. And even then, not all that enthusiastically. Definitely didn't need to be 73 minutes long.

This is the new Journey. I don't even know of the names of two of them at the back beside Jonathan Cain. I can't keep track of all these lineup changes.

I have been listening to the album for about a week. I also feel there are about 3 good songs. The production is very bad on a bunch of the songs. They recorded the album separate from each other and it shows. It sounds pieced together like Frankenstein! Arnel sounds like he is singing on a Hallway! LOL! It has worse production than Van Halen 3.

I had to listen to some older Journey to remind me why I like Journey. The new album is a dud to me sadly.

Regarding the guys in the back....

They had to replace Randy Jackson for touring. Old guy with medical issues.

If you can believe this, they got Todd Jensen on Bass. If the name sounds familiar.... it is because he played BASS on DLR "A Little Ain't Enough" in 1991... haha. Also with Steve Perry, Paul Rodgers, Jeff Scott Soto and Alice Cooper. He was also DLR's Tour Manager in 2015.

The other guy is a 2nd keyboard player and to HELP with vocals. Jason Derlatka - I looked him up on Journey Wiki, don't know of him though.

That's cool. I like Todd Jensen. I didn't recognize him, since I haven't seen a video of him playing in over 20 years! Todd also played for Hardline. Which had Neal Schon & Deen Castronovo in it. Neal seems to like to bring back old band members lately.

I wasn't a fan of Randy "What's Up Dog?" Jackson. He got on my nerves on American Idol. I like Todd much more.

Schon is one of those guys who changes gear more than he changes underwear, but he's always sounded pretty much the same over the last 30 years. Which is a good thing. I like his tone. I will say I absolutely love his Les Paul Custom that he played almost exclusively during the 2000s. Not a fan of Paul Reed Smith guitars.

I've just never cared for them. Not as clean as a Strat. Nowhere near as much balls as a Les Paul. And some of the most boring body shapes known to man. The one thing I will give them credit for is they use amazingly figured wood for their necks and tops.

This is a decent recording of Journey live from a month ago by a fan! I love the fact that Journey has 3 members of Hardline in it now. They only played one song from the new album.

A PRS is not trying to be a strat, never. Regarding the Les paul, it depends for which type of music. For some heavy stuff, it's actually better than a Paul. And for lead playing, it's more playable if u wanna do a bit of shreddin'. Alex lifeson has played both, for example.
For the arpeggio stuff, clean sounding, it's better than a Paul.

Now body shapes, u callin out my lady, callin her names! I'm in a good mood, I'll let it slide. For this time.

PRS are over priced for what you get. And Al is right, they don’t sound good.

The roots of Journey's Don't Stop Believin' can be found in a tragic school fire
By Fraser Lewry ( Classic Rock )

Journey's Jonathan Cain reveals the spiritual connection between Journey's classic Don't Stop Believin' and the tragic 1958 Chicago school fire that killed 92 of his classmates

Journey keyboardist and guitarist Jonathan Cain has revealed the spiritual connection between the band's classic 1981 hit Don't Stop Believin' and a tragic school fire that left 92 of his classmates dead. Cain made the remarks in an an episode of I Am Second, a series of Christian films in which athletes, actors, models and musicians talk about their relationship with God.

In the film, Cain tells the stories of two near-death experiences he had as a youngster. The first came as he was rescued and resuscitated after almost drowning in a lake, while the second came in a tragic fire at Chicago’s Our Lady of the Angels church school in 1958.

"I watched 92 children die right next to the House of God, and three nuns" says Cain. "I felt so lost. My father saw my sorrow right away and led me straight to music. He told me, ‘Son, your life was spared for something greater and that must be music.’”

Cain’s father went on to enrol him in at the Chicago Conservatory of Music, but success eluded him.

"My dog got run over and I needed money to pay for the vet bill," says Cain. "I had to call him, and I hated asking for money, and I said, 'Dad. I just wonder. Should I give up on this music dream and come home to Chicago, and just forget about it?' And there was a silence for a minute, and he said, 'Jon, this is your vision. No, you're not coming home. Stay the course. Don't stop believin'. And I wrote that down in my lyric book."

Cain joined John Waite in The Babys in 1979, before departing for Journey the following year. In the film, Cain reveals how he then returned to the lyric book, using the three words his father told him as he co-wrote Don't Stop Believin' with guitarist Neal Schon and frontman Steve Perry.

Cain also used the fire as inspiration for The Day They Became Angels, a song from his 2018 solo album Songs You Can’t Leave Behind.
