TEMPLE OF SYRINX: The VHLinks RUSH APPRECIATION thread!!
In adherence to the sticky post about starting up new threads about bands, I saw that a Rush thread already existed. So, that being said I thought it was time to bring some love to what is undeniably (IMHO) Canada's best import since back bacon - The musical genius of Lee, Lifeson and Peart......
What was the first Rush song you recall hearing?
What was the first album you bought?
What tour did you first see them on?
Do you remember when you could see Rush videos on MTV?
Do you like the tightness of the music, the shrill voice of Ged, or Neil's godlike prowess on the skins?
What is your favorite Rush album cover?
DISCUSS your addiction to that Rush!LowLifeFlatHeadScum

First song for me was "Tom Sawyer"
First album was "Moving Pictures"
Never saw them live but do have "Exit Stage Left" on VHS and it's still one of my favorite concerts to watch.
And yes I do remember seeing Rush videos on MTVLove should NOT be work, it should be as easy as breathing Dave's Dreidel

First became aware of Rush when "Tom Sawyer" started getting airplay. Some friends of mine had just become old enough to drive and many a cruise thru Huntington was done to the sounds of "Moving Pictures". However I wasn't as grabbed as the other guys were.
It wasn't until I heard "Subdivisions" a bit later that I sat up and took notice. I still hadn't bought a Rush album yet though. With each successive album, I became more and more interested....."Distant Early Warning"...hmmm, not bad. I taped several songs from radio, but still hadn't made a purchase. Fast forward to 1987. I finally gave in and bought "Signals" on vinyl, then "Grace Under Pressure", then "Power Windows" on tape.
The best part was that within three months of buying all these, "Hold Your Fire" was about to be released. This was the first Rush show I attended (Great Western Forum). For much of that high school year, I was about as addicted to Rush as I was to Halen from 1984 to 5150.
I was even starting to emulate Alex Lifeson's style of dress for that time period (thin-stranded semi-mullet combed partly to the side, dark dress jacket with t-shirt and Sonny Crockett-style slacks).
Ah.....the restless dreams of youth.LowLifeFlatHeadScum

First song I listened to by Rush is Limelight and it is still one of my all-time Rush favorites.
First album I bought was Moving Pictures. That was a great foundation to start my Rush collection and I'd recommend it to anyone that is new to Rush.
Unfortunately I hve yet to see Rush and I hope that they tour again this summer!!
No I actually don't really remember when I saw Rush videos on MTV. I did happen to watch Headbanger's Ball one night and for some reason, the video for Subdivisions was on. I really couldn't figure out why they would actually have a good band and that show.
I listened for the tightness of their music when I began to listen to them but now I listen to the Professor!! Greatest drummer ever.
My favorite album cover is either Moving Picture or Signals.
