I put together this "new" HSS Strat relic a couple months ago. My wife has affectionately nicknamed it the "CowCaster" due to the black-over-white relic. I was going for a "reverse 2015 Tour Relic" vibe, but CowCaster is cool too I guess.

The body is from an old Squier Bullet body. I used a heat gun to strip the original finish. Made a lot of mistakes, but oh well.

The roasted maple/rosewood neck is from a guy called Howell Guitar on Reverb. He makes killer necks for around $100. Seriously, check him out if you need a cheap neck.

The bridge (with brass block!) is from Musiclily, and the pickups and locking tuners are from Guitar Fetish. The humbucker is their VEH, and the single coils are their Boston Blues.

It took almost two years to make, because busy life + a move + a terrible first paint job. I still want to polish the body a little more to a semi-gloss.

Either way, I wanted to make a cheap guitar to take around and not worry about damaging, and it turned out great!

I had the Guitar Fetish VEH in an HH Jazzmaster I built a while back. Great sounding pickup.

As promised in a post in another thread, here's my new Pharaoh Gold WG Special that I modified with zebra pickups (from a MIJ, actually), cosmetic pickup rings (just for the retro look), new knobs (required changing pots, added a push-push coil-split tone pot).

I think it turned out great.

Phast, I'm fascinated what you did with that old timer. The shape reminds me of an old Vox I had back in the early 80s. It was very primitive but when I plugged it into a Boss distortion pedal, whoa baby! I love coming across stuff like this. As long as I have the cash, getting those old badboys working again is damn fun!

Phast's post made me nostalgic for my old Vox. My cuz Frank gave it to me around 1980. It was black with a white pickguard. It had two single coil pickups and a spring loaded whammy bar, which was pretty big and bulky. It also came with a nice gray case with orange plush interior. It was pretty primitive but it sounded great clean but especially with distortion! I gave it to one of my nephews a few years later so it stayed in the family, altho I don't know if he still has it. Talking about it makes me really miss it!
