I never understood why Eddie was so critical about this album. After all it was the only Van Halen album that showcased his fathers talents. Some people don't like the covers that much... but let's face it, the new material is some of the best material this band has ever recorded, it just suffers from split personality that's all.

It's funny, but alot of people think "Little Guitars" is dave at his best.

And my favorite Van Halen song is "secrets"

Let's start giving credit to this album, in fact put it on with a nice sized spliff and cold 6-pack of your favorite beverage!

It's not that DD is bad, it's just kinda heavy on the covers and not mixed very well, I think it a good album especially LG and Secrets!

I was one of those who originally didn't like this album because of all the covers. But frankly, the covers are fine...and the real gems on this album are the VH originals. I concur with WARF about secrets. It's one of my favs. Hang 'em High, the Full Bug...

Man...a real solid effort if you ask me...

DD is an album that I didn't play much a while back, but lately, I've been digging the hell out of it.

WHATGTG, opening up the album is great. VH should cover another Kinks song. (They haven't blown one yet. )

And I'd really like to hear the remastered DD for the difference in Hang Em High and The Full Bug, especially.

There was a gray kind of sound to the record. I don't know if that makes sense to any of you, but if brown can have a sound - So can gray. LOL. Only, gray isn't good. It's the sound of muddled music that should be cleaned up, shiny and new. Kind of... remastered, if you will.

Anyway, DD isn't VH's best album, but it *certainly* isn't their worst.

Yeah, well the remaster of the CD is a BIG improvement.

It definitely should have been represented on the Best Of album, with Little Guitars IMO, but Secrets or The Full Bug would have been cool too. I have a feeling that the reason Eddie doesn't like it is as much to do with what a miserable time it was for him as how the album turned out. I'd love to hear an interviewer tell Eddie that Diver Down is a piece of shit, and maybe he'd come to it's defense and say something nice about it. With the unremastered CD's though, Diver Down had by far the worst sound of any DLR era VH CD, which the remastering took care of.

a topic i totally agree on! what an underated album, it represents some of the attitude and showed they had a great sense of humor. most fans i think hate it because eddie does. i even liked the opening to dancin in the streets. i wonder if eddie got his way & turned it into his own song what it would have sound like.

I agree man, I have always dug this cd.
To me it is pure fun. Look at any of the Diver Down era bootleg videos and see how much fun the band has playing those songs live. That says it all.
The cd really showcases how versatile VH is.
For a band to go from Big Bad Bill into Hang'em High without sacrificing the "VH" edge is really rare.

Its allright I guess, not the first album i'd crack a sixer open and listen to but i guess its allright.About the covers though...I think maybe the song choices for the covers had to do with dave's influences rather than eddie's.Hell i'd be bitter if my band wanted to put dancing in the streets on my cd.and don't tell me that song rocks because it most definantly doesn't.(i'm not a huge fan of diver down)

I don't think it "Sucks" but compared to the rest of Van Halen's catalog I personally would put it at the bottom. Only because I think Van Halen is a band of innovation and unique sound. They are too original and groundbreaking to do an album predominantly of covers. Yes, there are a few great originals on the album, but "(Oh)Pretty Woman", "Dancing in the Streets", "Happy Trails" and the like are sure not representative to me of what Van Halen are all about. Just my opinion. It would be 12th or 13th in their catalog. ( I would put LRHRN down there too in my opinion.)
