or is DLR the only one who appears to care about the legacy of Van Halen and it's fans?
Eddie should just retire and sign the Van Halen name over to Dave so he could restore it back to glory and respectability.
I'd bet anything the Micheal Anthony would stay on and alex might stay too because i hear he's basicly broke from all his divorces. Then Dave could tap Vai to fill in and let the rock begin.

I really wish Dave cared enough about his own legacy to stop touring off of Van Halen material. It was a suspect move the first time, now it's even worse. Dave has become a nostalgia act, pure and simple.
I don't think it somehow makes VH's legacy stronger by having Dave out there playing these songs and ignoring 99% of the work he's done since 1984.

I'll be frank. Daves legacy isn't strong enough tour on.
He's had a few hits but nothing he did ever came close commercialy or influenced a generation of musicians as his stint in Van Halen.
The casual fan doesn't want to see him sing his solo stuff. When you see Roth you want to hear HFT or Jump.IMO

I'd have more respect for Dave if he played 200 seat clubs and tried to push his solo work (much of which has never been done live) than for doing the Van Halen oldies show to many more people.
I vastly prefer the VH material, but I love his solo work too. Plus, I think an artist has to have enough musical integrity to stop doing the same thing year after year.
Does Dave want to be looked at the same way the Beach Boys are looked at? We all love the songs, but deep down we think of them as a band that's stuck in a time warp, pretending it's the summer of '63 year after year. Dave is falling into that trap if he keeps relying on the VH material in my opinion.

I see your point but it's too late for Dave to break out of that time warp.
Like it or not, Dave is a symbol of 80's excess. He is no John Lennon.
And I'm not saying that as a knock on him.
Dave is a performer and a great one at that.
Dave gives his fans what they want. And if they want his Van Halen hits then that's what they'll get.
I think the majority of us can agree that his solo material doesn't stack up against his work in Van Halen. So why waste everyone's time and force feed songs on concert goers who don't want to hear his solo stuff?
Most people who went to go see Roth (as myself)went because we wanted to hear the VH songs done in the voice that originaly recorded them.
Therefore he gaves us what we wanted because as he's said many times he's in show buisness.

I agree with a lot of what you said about fan expectations, but if that's the case, are we to expect that everytime Dave tours from now on it'll be 90% VH material? Great songs, but it's not what I want to hear Dave doing.
I may be in the minority, but I'm cool with that.

Dave should play aobut 50-50 imo. He has to play more solo stuff, but he played a major part in VH's success so he earns the right to play those songs too. Oh, and you can't have Van Halen without Eddie. I don't care if Al, and Mike are in the band without Eddie it just ain't VH!
I am awesome

Hain, MikeL spoke with someone at the venue who said that Dave's been contracted to play mostly VH material, with a few solo tunes thrown in.
Just going by that information.

Glenn,
That kind of stinks...I was hoping that it would be more solo stuff this time around.
His solo music may not be VH, but I think it's definitely good enough to stand on its own...
If Dave isn't with VH, I hope he starts concentrating on new Dave material...and let the past be the past...
