I'm pretty sure they were nominated for both The Seventh Seal and Respect the Wind.

The Mighty Van Halen won a Grammy for best hard rock album "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge"(91'). I believe they received it early in 92' since F.U.C.K. was released in June of 91'. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that many people are unaware of VH wining a Grammy of any kind. I've heard more about them being nominated for Grammys', than them wining in 92'. I feel that the music industry under appreciates VH contributions. You never hear Van Halen introduced as "The Grammy Award Wining Van Halen!" Why is that? Can't figure it out, no respect I guess.

JOE: Actually Dennis Miller was the host of the show that year, and he announced the band. He said something like "After surviving their own version of the 'Dick York, Dick Sargent' debacle, here is 3/4th's of America's rock band, Van Halen"

Dick York/Dick Sargent debacle being in reference to the actor who played the husband on 'Bewitched', and his replacement.

Plus...every commercial break VH was being touted as coming out. You know...that dude that announces the next segments awards and award presenters. "Coming Up...Van Halen!!!" What a fucking joke that turned out to be...

I always wondered what the hell Dennis Miller meant by the 3/4 remark. It sounded to me like he was a Van Hagar fan a bit upset at Sammy being out of the band. Later in the show he made some referenc eto his "friend Sammy Hagar" after another group had performed a song (which band and which song escapes me at the moment) Anyone else remember what I'm talking about.

BTW, to Dennis Miller and anyone else who still doubts it..... that was NOT 3/4 of the band on that stage in 1996, or in the studio now. It is 4/4. It is the whole motherfucking enchilada. It is Van HALEN!

Van HALEN is: Dave, Eddie, Mikey, Alex. Any questions?

Yeah FORD...I do remember that because it pissed me off that Hagar was even mentioned in the same show as what could have been one of the true great moments in R&R history. Man...the crowd was goin' fucking nuts....

I think he said 3/4's because they wanted Dave to be a complete surprise right up until where he walked out. (we all knew better, though) That's my theory. And he actually sort of made fun of Sammy if memory serves me right. Something about pride stinging.

Well Wam Bam...thank you for telling me that. I think that I'll relax now...now that you have set me straight. I remember thinking that it was Dave's night...the reunified bands night...and Sam shouldn't have been mentioned.

Of course...now that I have been set straight...I think that I'll change my thinking.

I've seen Dennis Miller diss Hagar on his HBO show.
This is to the best of my memory what Miller said on one of his "rants".

"People of all different religeons and cultures will never agree on what happens to us in an afterlife but we all can agree on one thing......Sammy Hagar was a mistake! (the audience roars with cheers)

BTW... I thought you couldn't post if you weren't a member? How did this guy start a thread being unregistered?
