Not that I think they are...but I would say that the majority of people think the Bros. are assholes because of their lack of speaking to the fans. Am I right?

If so, were they assholes before the internet became a common household appliance?

Before the internet, Van Halen released an album almost every year and did a tour to follow up? Dave was the main voice on the microphone and all was good!

So, what made AL & Eddie Assholes?

I'm almost wondering why you even ask this question? There are probably so....many different reasons and I'm sure you will read many of them here. But for me, this would be mine.

1. Pure lack of communication.
2. inability to bury the hatchet with past members.
3. The whole copyright/trade mark thing.
4. Piss poor "Official" website.
5. Lack of ANY new music?
6. Always pointing blame on others (ie, Dave, Sam, WB, Lawyers, etc.)

That are six of mine, but I could probably go on for days of what really bugs me?

It's time for those guys to Shit or get off the pot? It's just so sad seeing all that pure tallent go to waste?

My point exactly.
I'm tired of coming to these message boards and all these people who claim to be fans only complaining how much the bros. have done them wrong.
Yeah, VH put out an album every year in the beginning, but after Sammy joined it slowed considerably. No one heard a thing between 1988 and 1991...and no new album until 1995. That's 3 and 4 years apart...with no Web page...no webmaster...absolutely no communication at all between VH and it's fans. Hasn't the fan club been defunct since 1984?
So what's the problem? We dealt with it fine before?
We'll hear something eventually and we'll hear it before we ever have to find it in a magazine.

They've given us 13 count 'em 13 albums of great music. They don't owe us a thing. They don't wanna make music, they don't have to, and the band shouldn't feel pressured by us to make any.

I agree with you Red about the fact that Van Halen doesn't have to make any albums from now on if they don't care to. Thirteen albums is quite a few, they have quite a legacy, and are shoo-ins for the RNR HOF. I think what causes people discomfort is the abruptness of the situation. They didn't fade off into the sunset with a few cheesy albums at the end. They didn't announce their retirement. They just STOPPED. And not much in the way of words. That's what I think the fans have the beef over.

not to mention the fact that they haven't declared VH dead yet. If they're going to go on, get Sammy back (face it kids, Dave returning is a dead issue) and just move forward.

The other alternative is to get Sam and Dave back for a farewell tour so Eddie can make movie soundtracks or an instrumental solo album with his pals like Steve Luthaker.

We'll see what 2003 will bring...if anything.

Not communicating with us the fans, without us they would be nothing. Just like any other band or celebrity(ies).

I would rather they announce their retirement tomorrow then go thru another year of this shit.

I've never met the VH brothers personally so I couldn't tell you whether or not they were assholes. It is safe to say that they are not the best at PR. The biggest difference between all those previous years and now is that at least we knew who the lead singer was and that they were working on new music.

I guess I'm really more sad rather than angry with the VH brothers (or for that matter Dave and Sammy). The few statements Eddie has made indicate he wants us to hang around but he won't tell us why...

This is what I mean. Nobody asked you to hang out and wait for them to do something. (Surely not Eddie or Alex) If your feeling agonized over their lack of communication, it is completely self induced.

I'm just giving my opinion. You're reading me wrong bro, believe me I'm not worried sick about the situation. I just don't like the non-communication going on. The least they can do is inform their fans of their intentions. With no info coming from them, I take it they have NO intentions.

The thing that pisses me off about the Bros. is that it seems they always avoid dealing with problems until it explodes in their faces.
