The Who have announced that they will proceed with their scheduled 3 month US tour starting on Monday in LA. They will play in "Tibute to Jonh Entwistle." As of yet, they have not announced who will be their touring bass player.

I vote for Michael Anthony. Anyone else?

    It could work...
    VHWalkathon - Project 316

EVH: The music is first and foremost. That's the way it's always been and that's the way it will always be. Because without the music, what is there? Nothing. There's nothing without the music. You can't even cop an attitude without the music (laughs).

I can't think of anybody that even comes close to touching Entwistle. Nobody's got fingers that fast.....

Jaco Pastorius, but he's passed on as well....

Wyman? Kinda busy with the young ladies in his life...

McCartney? Sort of the same dealio....

Flea? The playing styles don't really mesh....

Geddy Lee? Has his own tour coming up....

How do you replace that guy? You really can't.

Maybe there's a Who tribute band out there & they can find an imitator a la Brian Young or Ralp Saenz.......but jeez, they're troopers for keeping "the show must go on" mentality....I just don't know how they could go up, play & look over where John should be standing & not get depressed......
Q: Recording the album took so long your Australian tour last year was cancelled. What was it like in the studio? There's a history of tension between you and Eddie Van Halen...

DLR: It was like a stand off in a Chuck Norris movie. We each had the laser dot on everybody's forehead waiting for the other guy to blink. Except for Wolfie, he had a Super Soaker ...

I don't know. I just don't think it's right to continue the tour. If they had booked the tour a few months ago and he died then, then maybe it wouldn't be as bad. But it's definitely not the Who anymore now, even though I didn't ever really think it was after Moon died. The poor guy's not even in the ground yet. That's just my opinion though...

I agree with The Full BuD on the fact that it seems a bit soon to be touring, but that's the band's decision I guess. I would like to see Mikey join them, of course, but I think the vibe would be a little weird. I think a better "fit" for the band would be John Paul Jones, but I'm not sure if he's even available at the moment.

I mirror your sentiments Full Bud. FYI, Entwistle's family has endorsed the tour and his son indicated that his Dad would have wnated the music to play on.

    From Petes Site :-

    Tour to continue

Pete and Roger have decided that the tour will carry on, commencing with the Hollywood Bowl show on Monday. Bass player Pino Palladino has been drafted in for the shows. The Las Vegas and Irvine shows will be rescheduled for new dates.

A full statement from Pete and Roger will follow shortly.

    Matt

I've looked round the newsgroups a bit, apparantly this Pino dude has worked with both Roger and Pete with their solo stuff and tours at different times. Wether he's in for just the opening shows or the full tour, who knows.

I'll move this to opinions/speculation I think, its more suited to that forum
A little zen....... Headed your way.......
