Ahhh...of course it makes no sense to target the military. I was simply pointing out to those who may wish to complain about the US causing the deaths of 'innocent people' that our enemies seem to have gone to great lengths to specifically target our civilians.

If killing civilians is how they wish to wage their war, so be it. They are doing their best to make this a holy war, or a race war, or whatever you may call it. They are attempting genocide, and it seems that they will continue along those lines. With Bush chatting with Russia over the nuclear arms treaty, things are beginning to take a very serious turn. They wanna fool with 'mass destruction'? They may learn a whole new definition of the term (albeit an instant too late for them to rethink their ways).

And when the profiling in the US goes into overdrive, I don't wanna hear anyone whine about it. Latest report I've heard has a mid-east kid telling his entire class (high school I do believe) a few days BEFORE Sept.11 that the WTC would NOT be there the following week. Once the attacks occurred, the teacher reported the kid to the authorities. It seems that a LOT of 'innocent Muslim-Americans' are not only aware of all the attacks, they are not coming forward to the authorities with their information. The loyalty lies to their terrorist idols before the country they actually reside in. That means treason, and that leads to deportation or death.

These are not irrational or hateful words, only PRACTICAL ones. The US is going to be left with NO choice but to start eliminating these people, one way or another, regardless of public opinion. With something like mailbox-bound anthrax, it could be coming from ANYONE, and from what leads the gov't seems to have, they all point to the same group of people responsible for the 9-11 attacks.

This is going to do wonders for the PR aspects of the war, that's for sure. But when US civilians are the targets (and victims), I hope the anti-war/anti-profiling flower children start to realize that in order to win the war, we too must play dirty.

And when it gets to the point where we throw out the constitution and everything that made this country great in the first place in the name of paranoia, the terrorists win, whether or not "we" nuke the entire middle east.

Now back to my original point. I was half joking about the Republican thing, but I would think if this were the Bin Laden terrorists doing this, they would hit FOX News, Ollie North, and Trent Lott just as easy as they would NBC,ABC, and Tom Daschle. Granted the tabloids are often twisted forms of right wing propaganda, but other that these attacks seem to focus on the so-called "liberal" media.

The Muslim fanatics consider all of us "The Great Satan". The domestic fanatics only think the liberals are.

FORD, since you are making the point that only the liberal media is being targeted thus far, here's some info to the contrary:

The radio show I mentioned earlier is one that you would consider a 'right-wing' program. The host (and co-hostess) of the show were targeted by a mysterious letter, fitting the description of the 'anthrax letters'. When the hostess (who opened the thing, DUH!) realized that something may be wrong, she went to the hospital and had called the police...

The authorities were very careful about how they handled the letter, the office, the building, etc. However, the HOSPITAL was the agent acting in a strange manner. Knowing that a nasal culture with one of those Q-tips is the normal test, after a long delay, they actually came at the woman with a syringe of saline solution to FLUSH IT OUT! Clearly, they were either completely ill-prepared for the event, or were instructed by someone to cover up the evidence. After she protested, she got a 'proper' swab test. Results are not back yet.

Anyhow, it's not just mainstream media outlets being targeted. Of course, the above report may have been the result of a copy-cat or hoaxter, but ALL parties seem to be under the crosshairs. Whether we HEAR all the stories is another subject, of course, since I think that the gov't is TRYING to avoid a mass panic. (with 24-hour 'anthrax-tv' going on, someone is certainly working hard at keeping some degree of serenity in this country).

So, I think it's just a matter of time before the less liberal-leaning media start getting hits like that. They ARE the minority, so it may just take longer.


And as for throwing the constitution out the window, this is WAR; our enemies, no matter what any piece of paper says, are NOT 'citizens' of the US, and therefore are not entitled to the rights therein. It's not pretty, it's not PC, but it's war, and war is ugly. If that means suspending some of our rights (for the time being) in order to preserve them for the long term, then we have to do whatever it takes.

Whoever is sending the real Anthrax (confirmed at American Media, NBC, ABC(?) and Daschle's office but NOT microsoft) is sure going out of there was to make it look like it's connected to Al Qaeda/Sept 11th. Postmarks from places where hijackers lived, threats against the US and Israel, references to Allah etc - maybe trying just a little to hard given the reluctance of anyone official to make a definitive link.

Beyond that there are pretty obviously going to be copycat hoaxers sending white powder to groups they object to whether on the left or right. 100 abortion clinics have got letters like that in the last week - though it seems like Anthrax hoaxes haven't been very uncommon even before Sept 11th. At least one person in CT has been arrested for a hoax and Kerik alluded to other known hoax cases in one of the press conferences yesterday.

It's still terrorism - but I don't think it's at all clear yet that it's overseas, foreign terrorism though. And someone pointed out at dlrarmy (yeah the enemy site [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img] ) that media would seem kind of a stupid target fpr Al Qaeda who presumably want to manipulate them for propaganda. I dunno, it just doesn't bear the hallmark of Bin Laden somehow - hopefully we'll know for sure very soon.

I don't think anyone can say they knew Bush would have, either. Being a Democrat doesn't exclude one from being a hawk. The greatest president of this century is surely proof of that.
