...and I am sure those of you out there could name a few more "volatile pairs".

Back in 1981, The Stones went out on their huge "Tattoo You" tour, and then took nearly the rest of the decade to come back together behind "Steel Wheels". The did their solo trips in between.

Aerosmith were all but dead and gone AND minus Joe Perry during the early eighties...

Van Halen fell apart in 1985, but rallied back in a BIG way with Sammy. (I still regard that as one of the most amazing things in rock. AND, for a moment, try to imagine what it was like for Sammy to walk out in front of 15,000 or so fans for the first few times, wondering what the reception would be? Let's face it the man had some serious shoes to fill and, say what you will about who you regard as "better", the fact remains that "Van Hagar" was a very successful endeavor) But that too came to an ugly end.

Let's just discount the momentary VHIII era...nothing against Gary...but the guy never really fit in, the chemistry was totally lacking. But I would guess that Ed, Al and Mike learned a thing or two.

Soooooo, as I ramble...Ed and the crew have had there time away from Dave, have been with other singers, have even been away from touring and such for years now.

Perhaps the time for a reunion isn't right...not just yet.
But I believe all involved have too much to gain. (and I mean far more than money) There is something about overcoming a monster obstacle that is very rewarding, and my armchair-psych manual tells me that Ed and Dave have got the wiring, the personalities, and yes, the EGOS, to want to make a go of it. When? Sorry, but my crystal ball is broken.

oh yeah, a reunion is still possible, i think that it's really up to eddie. they will have to put aside the ego thing in my opinion.

Something I've always admired about Mick and Keith as well as Steven and Joe is their ability to talk about the problems they used to have (and even the problems they STILL have) in a very candid manner, and not have it lead to more fighting. I've seen Steven and Joe sitting side by side and talking about the shitty old days and they're mature enough to handle it.

Frankly, I can only see Dave and Eddie sweeping their shit under the rug for a brief period. I just don't see them letting it go entirely. Eddie especially. He just seems wildly insecure, and if Dave was sitting next to him and the talk turned to the breakup days, I'd be very concerned that the two of them would end up at each others throats, dragging out all the old hurt feelings.

I hope I'm wrong though. 1985 is a LONG way in the rearview mirror (though 1996 is closer); it's extremely petty to continue to allow the events of so long ago define them and control their current activities.

But I don't see Dave and Eddie ever having a long lasting musical relationship the way Keith/Mick and Steven/Joe have.

Sammy said it best, "Humans Being".

Who knows what is going on in the head of Eddie ,Alex, Mike and Dave. Hopefully, they can find what they really want. Whether it's a reunion or they stay away from each, we can only wait.

I have to agree with you Glenn. I think that whatever went down between the two of them cut Ed to the core and that's not something he's ever going to be able to really get over. It appears that there was a basic violation of trust or something to make it so impossible for him to let David back into his life in such a way. It's a shame because I think it must hurt just as much not to be able to get over it as it did when it happened.
Could this be magic?
