Was Eddie and Alex really gonna kick out Micheal Anthony?

Ive heard several times that in the mid 90's Eddie and Alex were going to get rid of Micheal Anthony. Anyone know anything about this? I heard a possible replacement they had in mind was Billy Sheean. I think that it would have been a big mistake if it were true.

i heard that ed was thinking about it around fair warning, but al convinced him not to. the replacement he had in mind was sheehan though. i also agree it would have been a mistake, even though sheehan's awesome. i never heard about that in the nineties though.

laner, I'm pretty sure that Edward himself was wanting to quit(around time of Fair Warning) but Al talked him out of it. I remember reading an interview where Edward was quoted as saying that.

I think Eddie has flirted with the idea of a new bass player before.
But in 1996, I think it was the opposite senerio.
I firmly believe that Mike was going to quit Van Halen in support of his best friend,Sammy Hagar.
I believe that Micheal Anthony was persuaded from doing so(mo'money)as to not permanently destroy the band with that kind of bad publicity.
It's one thing to change one member at a time,it's whole other ball of wax when two popular members leave at the same time. Especially if one member is an original member and a very likeable one at that.

The rumor of Mike being booted out during the Fair Warning album were true and it was Billy Sheehan that he wanted as the bass player and he even auditioned him. Ed did this because he felt the band wasn't being treated as "musicians" and he felt that if he had Sheehan in the band that VH would then get a little more recognition as musicians. This is true and has been confirmed by Billy Sheehan himself and he has been on VH links before and he e-mailed me about this when I posted something familiar to this in the past. Sad but true. I often wonder what Vh would sound like with Sheehan and Ed playing together.

If you choose to believe Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth, They both have stated that Mike was almost replaced a number of times.
We don't know the reasons and it doesn't matter to me at this point because without Mike in the band my interest in VH goes Waaaaaaay Down.
