Ok, I'm sure we will all agree that EVH is a FAR better technical guitarist then The Edge. But the question is who do you think is more creative?

I'll have to go with Eddie on this one. I say that, not referring to anything past OU812. My reasoning is this... No one was doing what Eddie did with the guitar when he broke. The Edge certainly is creative, but there were other guitarists doing similar sounds from that time period.

absolutely no doubt, Edward, but lets face it, the Edge outside of a few other guitarists, is definately one of those rare people who have their own style and uniqeness, when you here the opening riffs to a U2 song, you know immediately who is behind it. U2 ROCKS

Hahahahaha now you really made me laugh.
There is absolutely no way anybody can compare the Edge with KING EDWARD.

The Edge is not bad, but EDWARD is more creative than any guitar player in the planet.

Edge has some good grooves in his rythums but I'd say his structuring is pretty simplistic over-all.

Ed on the other hand is all over the neck and his rythums are extremely complex in comparison. Fills are another strength plus variances in timing which he peppers little choice nuggets with the song structure.

I respect and like U2 very much. The Edge is cool. Thou I do wonder what he woulda done without his trusty delay pedal? Anyhow, a great player who knows how to put it across onstage as well.

Having said that, Eddie is THE MAN. Created a new language on instrument that went on to affect everything from hard rock & metal to pop music. Remember, when Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson wanted some killer guitar playing on Beat It in 1982 they looked for the best, and the best was EVH. Plus Ed's monster TONE and the way he changed everything from guitars to amps to developing the floyd rose.. For overall ability, innovativeness, influence, virtuosity etc.. Gotta be EVH.. He got wild sounds outta his cheap homeade axe without depending much on effects either.. I like the Edge very much but he aint in EVH's league.
Then again, in our lifetime, for overall skills and impact, who the hell is?

You have to be kidding right??We talk about Eddie having alot of free time on his hands but what about some of the birs on this board??The Edge has been getting paid millions of dollars, been doing this for 20,25 years now and guess what?/He still hasen't learned to play the fucking guitar, look at that live in Boston concert from the Elevation tour, a pro shot, punched up official release from the band and he's a complete joke, the sloppiest player, absolutly NO vibrato whatsoever, and all those racks??He has by far the worst sound, this guy needs a idea.."hello!!!learn to play the guitar!!".
Please don't bring up this band, U2 has always been a "critics" band, and show me a critic that can tune a guitar.Bono loves hearing himself talk, and he hasen't been able to sing since like 88-90, a Casio organ has a better rythm section, but hey..the critics like them so they must be the greatest band in the world....NOT, a lounge band at best,,

Damn brother, lay off the crack....lounge band, you are absolutely out of your mind. Funny to use the term when Roth plays lounges.

The only thing wrong with Bono is his liberal B.S. (Barbara Streisnad) about forgiving world bank debt to third-world warlords! Other than that, the boy can still sing!

U2 are great but this seems to me to be a pretty stupid comparison - theres no real grounds of similarity in what the respective guitarists do, so you can't compare.

Is that true or what??? I can listen to that song over and over again. To me, it represents how VH was different from everyone else.

Ed's guitar sound is so full and heavy yet the song has a poppy sounding groove. Upbeat and happy yet heavy and full. No one has been able to duplicate those types of songs that VH had all but mastered back then.
